Re: Official Samsung Battery Performance Talk

gTen....thanks for you help...you were right........cleared out all my apps, and my battery life is back to good. I had some rogue app that kept my phone from sleeping. I basically wiped all of my apps and am going to re-install them one at a time to see which one is the culprit.

so word of advice to all you guys with bad battery life....clear all your apps, and see if you battery performance improves. I bet you it does dramatically...then reinstall them one at a time and see which ones are preventing your device from sleeping.

Thanks again for your help gTen.

Battery Drain, and the culprit App IS.....

Please do not post here unless you have definitive results from a controlled test!

There are some apps out there that aren't letting our devices sleep, causing people to have TERRIBLE battery drain!

LET'S TAKE BACK OUR BATTERY LIFE!

I'm going to work here under the assumption that the stock apps on my Epic4g are not to blame. So what's left to do? Wipe CLEAN all my new apps from the device, and install them 1 by 1 while testing for screen not sleeping and other battery drain issues.

I will be editing this 1st post as I add each app and discover if it's GUILTY or INNOCENT of draining my precious battery! I encourage you to do the same, please compile a list like the one below, please specify if you're rooted or not, and for GUILTY apps PLEASE BRIEFLY SUMMARIZE THE BATTERY ISSUE THAT COMES WITH THE APP. I'm calling on the power of this brilliant community to squash this bug!

GUILTY APPS:

Thanks to DaddyMikey1975 for bringing this to my attention. According to this over at XDA and fix for battery issues on Android Forums it seems as if Samsung and/or Sprint need to update our radios. Our devices are set to WCDMA by default. So they're searching for a WCDMA tower and can't find one. This could prevent the phone from going to sleep as well.

To check and see if your device has been plagued w/ this illness, to go Menu > Settings > About Phone > Battery Use > Cell Standby.. look for "Time without Service".. Mine was at 52%.. THIS could kill our batteries as well as keep the phone from sleeping. This also explains why Juice Defender works so well. It shuts down the data connection, thereby preventing the phone from hunting for a WCDMA signal and allowing the device to sleep.

*EDIT* This appears to have been fixed with the DI07 update...

GPS.
Try turning this off and only using it when you actually need it, see what happens with your battery life.

Asphalt
Beautiful Widgets (and a ton of clock/weather themes)
Bloo
Tetris

Thanks for picking up the ball on this! I'll add this to the 1st post. The "Innocent" list will be no place for debate, if anyone at all reports a problem with an "innocent" app, that app is proclaimed GUILTY!!

Nope. It seems as if it's good. I unplugged my phone Tuesday morning w/ a full charge (according to the phone's "full battery" message. At lunchtime yesterday I had a tiny bit of blue left in my indicator so I plugged it back in while at work to get it back to 100%.. I went a day and a half (with normal usage for me) without needing to charge it. FWIW.. I was very excited to see that the battery didn't lose any life overnight (as it had before I wiped it)..

exciting stuff..

(if you want, I'll try and look for the apps that I had before, re-install one at a time to see if I can find any 'guilty' ones :P )

EDIT: for the fun of it, I might remove juice defender/ultimate juice this weekend and see if battery performance changes as well (significantly)..
