When I installed Go SMS only without the Stock MMS, I wouldn't receive texts and they would never appear in my inbox. The phone would flicker like if I got the message, but there was no way to see it.

That is correct, you MUST have a version of the stock mms app installed. My suggestion would be to use Go SMS from the market. You will still get the 2 notifications, but it should reduce restart issues.

Turn off notifications on the stock app and you won't get double notifications. Make sure auto retrieve is on. I've had no restarts or problems using this setup.

Sounds like the kernel didn't flash properly (it happens sometimes). Just follow the flashing instructions and do it all over again and it should be ok. Make sure you don't skip any steps, and make sure you wipe everything 3 times before you flash.

Sounds like you came directly from the stock rom. The modem (radio firmware) doesn't get updated when you install most custom froyo roms so you must be running stock DK28 before you can install a custom rom. With the wrong modem, the cell radios can't boot up and it gets stuck in an airplane mode loop. There is a way to just install the modem firmware posted somewhere, otherwise you have to start over with odin, DK28 stock and then clockwork and midnight.

Yup the kernel was the prob! I never flashed it. I had read about it along the way some ware but the step by step instructions kinda leave that step out. For newer users the ppcg wiki is unclear about this. Thank you for your post.

The kernel is included in the aio package but sometimes you have to flash more than once. We have bad flashes just the same as winmo had them.

If you look in the general section there is a sugestion thread for the wiki if you have any.
