That is correct, you MUST have a version of the stock mms app installed. My suggestion would be to use Go SMS from the market. You will still get the 2 notifications, but it should reduce restart issues.

Turn off notifications on the stock app and you won't get double notifications. Make sure auto retrieve is on. I've had no restarts or problems using this setup.

Hi Im new to Android and converting from winmo has been a big change but after alot of reading im getting the hang of things but after flashing to midNIGHT ROM v3.3 BYOR and Pre-Built AIO airplane mode is stuck on and the screen flashes all crazy like. Has this happened to anybody else? Im gonna start over i guess and try again. any idea what i did wrong?

Yup the kernel was the prob! I never flashed it. I had read about it along the way some ware but the step by step instructions kinda leave that step out. For newer users the ppcg wiki is unclear about this. Thank you for your post.
