What if Google bought HTC? Could Kill WinMo 7

Google sells one other hardware product (besides the Nexus 1), the Google Search Appliance. And guess, what, they can't even make a simple x86 server... they have to get Dell to do it for them. No chance or rationale for them to buy HTC.

I don't think this would kill WM7. *If* google did this, you would most likely see the other manufacturers (Samsung, Sony, Motorola, LG) move away from Android, and make more phones running WM (Samsung is now pushing BADA).

This could work out for Google, as well. They would only have one hardware mfgr making their phones, which would mean google would not need to support as many hardware profiles. Plus, if they want to go straight for the Apple jugular, they may be able to focus their sites only dealing with one hardware mfgr.

Would it make sense to do this? Maybe/maybe not. With Google's primary goal to drive revenue through advertisements, I think they'd want to display these ads on any and every platform imaginable. Also, I don't know if HTC is wanting to be purchased. They seem to be doing just fine on their own.

First off thanks to whom ever thanked me. My first Thanks! Now as for the previous post, that is true. Never thought about how Apple gave Google the shaft on GV. This supports my first post on the Google/HTC fiasco. Google is more ad-based, meaning their main goal would be to share themselves with as many partners & supporters as possible. On top of that El Goog wants to look like "The People's Choice", therefore inviting more devs and manufacturers to the fold. Apple by contrast, went a different route, going the "make a device the people want before they know they want it" Jobs mantra. they do everything in-house (still recognizing Foxconn and others) making them an "elitist" brand.

On a semi-related note, look up any MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator). Selling yourself as a business model isn't easy either. Virgin Mobile USA was bought by Sprint, and for further proof look up Helio or Amp'd. Google's good at what they do. I think as time goes on they'll surprise us.
