Re: omnia private purchase switch
Nope, I've searched online and called Verizon several times trying to find a way around it but without any luck. No matter how you get the phone you cannot activate it unless you have the $30 data plan. Seems silly to me because as a student I would have much rather purchased the phone at full price and paid voice only, since I'm in range of Wifi about 95% of the time. But alas, Verizon knows that since the Omnia is so good we can be suckered into paying for the data even if we don't really need it

Re: omnia private purchase switch
Verizon does offer just a data phone option if you don't need the voice service lol .. But yes Verizon is smart - even if you manually add this device to your online account it knows that it requires a data plan and it will assist you in adding the plan before you activate the phone.
Used to be able to put phones like this on Alltel Prepaid service even though its a Verizon device. But those were the good ol' days lol

Re: omnia private purchase switch
FWIW, I believe that all cell phone companies require a data plan if you have a smartphone. Even AT&T just switched to that policy a couple of months ago, although if you already had one you were "Grandfathered" in.
