Nope, I've searched online and called Verizon several times trying to find a way around it but without any luck. No matter how you get the phone you cannot activate it unless you have the $30 data plan. Seems silly to me because as a student I would have much rather purchased the phone at full price and paid voice only, since I'm in range of Wifi about 95% of the time. But alas, Verizon knows that since the Omnia is so good we can be suckered into paying for the data even if we don't really need it
