Device Memory vs Phone Storage

is it better to install programs on to the phone's normal memory or on the storge area? I usually install it on the device memory, and keep all my music on my 4gb storage card. So the extra 8gb is just there. Just wondering if there was an advantge to on another and where does everyone else install there programs

Re: Device Memory vs Phone Storage

Some programs will only operate if on the phone's main memory (device) but to keep as much flexibility with the device for the future, I keep any programs that can operate from My Storage on My Storage. For the most part my experience with third party apps that are required on the main memory are in the minority, say 20% or less. I always try to load a program to My Storage first then check functionality, if it works then it stays.

Re: Device Memory vs Phone Storage

My personal rule of thumb is that if you've got the device memory, use it. A custom ROM will give you well over 120MB free. Anything that I think will be important goes on the device memory. I do put all my games in My Storage. Currently i have everything that i typically run on my phone to the device memory with 99.63MB Free. I'm ok with that.

Re: Device Memory vs Phone Storage

EVERYTHING gets installed to the card, unless it HAS to be installed to the device.

Re: Device Memory vs Phone Storage

Anything that has be running in startup, mostly "today screen" items have to go in device memory. Everything else gets installed into My Storage and my backups go to the SD Card.

Re: Device Memory vs Phone Storage

something to consider...these custom roms usually leave available space in the rom. Try using one of the kitchens posted in CDMA custom ROMS to cook in the apps that you like or frequently use to make the most of available space. As a rule of thumb when going this route, add one app at a time and test for compatability. Hope you get the answer you're looking for.
