But as far as the GPS lock, Telus did not restrict it like verizon did, but I haven't been able to use it... and the quality should be improved with the ROM update... one day...

I heard somewhere to set GPS settings to use COM8 in Google Maps... I tried it, but no luck .

How did you get your GPS working at all? I wish I had crappy GPS compared to no GPS lol

For Google maps GPS is set to "Managed by windows" other then that check off "use gps" Done works everytime, Just not well.

Re: how do i flash telus omnia?

strange... I set it to automatic, checked off the GPS, left it alone until it gave me a "weak signal" retry/cancel? screen... I even checked in my phone options--> services --> GPS --> ON...

I'm stumped as to how come some Telus omnias work, while others dont...

Re: how do i flash telus omnia?

Can I speculate a little here?

Most of the GPS birds are getting long in the tooth. As military GPS receiver hardware gets more advanced, it's possible USAF is turning down the output power to extend the life of the birds. The signals may be getting weaker. That would explain weather related problems we have been experiencing.

Why do the car companies still put a GPS antenna on the roof? My '01 Eldo had a GPS receiver three times the size of the OnStar cellular module and separate cellular and GPS antennae.

Yes, I know you can get BT GPS receivers on a key fob. Newer/better GPS receiver chips make that happen. It takes a while to design a phone around one, though.

Don't you wish hardware parts were as easily upgraded as firmware/software? Just unplug that out of date GPS chip and plug in the new one.

Ted

Re: how do i flash telus omnia?

I know this is an old thread but I have something that may help others...To update the PRL on Telus phones, the SPC must be the same as the original. Otherwise, it just wont work. So if you flash the phone with a cusiom firmware, you have to find a way to put back the old SPC (the telus one) to be able to use the *22803. I had this problem with a Moto Q and even tech support didn't know why it wasn't working.
