Omnia Gets REALLY Hot

anyone know the reason? It just started doing this not to long ago after I upgraded to WoZZeRs rom. Im not saying its because of that but thats when it started. It gets really hot when I have it connected to the charger or usb cable. Around the Antenna area

Re: Omnia Gets REALLY Hot

That's normal. It's nothing anyones ROM did, you just probably became more aware of it after you flashed.

Re: Omnia Gets REALLY Hot

I've had mine for only a couple of days now and I notice this especially when I use the usb (warns me device is too hot). I put in a 8gb microSD and it wanted to format it, I said go for it...it never formatted it and it got so hot that i could smell the plastic fumes-I removed the SD and am not sure if i'll use one now. After a little google I found that sometimes it will get "caught in a loop" or keeps trying and failing to process something - stay on top of task manager.

Re: Omnia Gets REALLY Hot

I remember some one saying they though the original Ram was detuned and the leaked rom takes full advantage of the Omnias chipset so it makes sense that it would get hotter. I'm not sure anyone can/has been able to prove this though. It's odd that you were smelling plastic. I know that charging the Omina heats it up pretty good. Anything that uses the radio, ie lots of data, wifi, etc. Plugged into the USB it was probably trying to charge and we know that the USB can't provide the current to charge so maybe it was a combination of things? I've had 2 omnias since Feb and neither got too hot to hold in my hand.....maybe I'm just super human though, I've been suspecting that for a while.

Re: Omnia Gets REALLY Hot

I had the same problem and last night i stopped using my usb to chargh my phone. So far i have had the best battery performance yet. I think the usb cable that came with the omnia does not cary enough amps or it was nevver meant to really charge that way. The other thing is it could be from constantly downloading stuff to it. YOur gps chip running, phon chip and what ever is being used are probley not all designed to run at the same time or continously.

Re: Omnia Gets REALLY Hot

Oh yah also untill i did that my battery kept saying full charge but would drain within an hour. It was always hot. Heat is usually a sign that electricity is being wasted. Kinda like how a regular light bulb is alot hotter than a floresent one and floresent is much more eficiant. at first i thought it was the gps chip being missmanaged. but now i am not so sure.

Re: Omnia Gets REALLY Hot

I am sure ther is. maybe find one from a newer or older phone that has the same adaptor or a third party one. What i did was used my wall charger and used blue tooth to sync to computer unless i am flashing. Depending on what you want to charge from though you might never find the right one. Usb outlets do charge but ther all different loads that come out of them depending on what you are charging from. Laptops have alot less charge than a desktop usually. The other thing is I am pretty sure you have to have a usb version that is able to charge. I think but am not sure but usb 2 is the only kind that is able to charge anything. so make sure you plug into the right one. If you really wanted to you could take a multimeter and check the port or ther is i heard programs that do that for you. I dont think any multimet will work and maybe check to find if there is a program that can adjust the amount of power that goes to the usb but that sounds like a bit risky of causing a lot of damage. I would say never charge from usb if you dont have to. The dare had a charger usb combo that charged fine from my lap top so there could to many reasons that it is not worth buying stuff untill you know more information.

Oh ya check the power requirements frome the phone and whats available. It can damage your battery to give it the wrong charge.

Re: Omnia Gets REALLY Hot

I've noticed the heat during processor-intensive activities, but over the past week or so, I've been having some software issues which seemed to cause constant polling of my Exchange server... talk about heat! I left it sitting on my kitchen table for a few minutes and the back of the phone was literally too hot to touch. And the battery drain was extraordinary, as well.
