Yes, but without the VZAccess. The PC/Phone recognized and installed properly it appeared. Can't remember now where I read about that setting for the USB in the phone, but I will go back and try the other way. It got pretty late last night, so not sure if I tried that.

Maybe I did mix methods, as I don't know what the PST method is (nice use of the term medley, too.)

Re: Beta rom

if/when VZW finally deems us worthy of an official release, will the process of upgrading be similar to the beta upgrade, or will there be some sort of streamlined process. Since I have never upgraded any previous phone, I am curious about the process. =)

OK, I went over to Modaco and started to read. I read that if you don't do it perfect, you will brick your phone. I am such a noob, and now I am nervous. Is it something, I should just opt not to do?

Kimberly:

I am not a newbie and have flashed my ROM before and I am waiting for the official release. I highly suggest anyone not 100% confortable with flashing ROMs do the same. Remember, this is a beta version of a leaked ROM. TYhere are likely to be bugs, and more importantly, likely to be changes when the official ROM comes out, meaning you will simply have to reflash all over again.

I do not begrudge those people who want to futz around with the leaked ROM and play with it, but unless cooking ROMs and playing with your phone's programming is your idea of fun, I would recommend just waiting.

The fact that this ROM even exists means that Verizon is working on getting it public, and the fact that it is now leaked simply means it is likely to come out officially sooner than before (think of it as if there are now hundreds more beta testers!).

Let the people who enjoy tinkering be your and my guinea pigs. I can live without GPS on my Google Maps for another month or two.

Re: Beta rom

OK, Working now!! I did it wrong several times, but no brick! Thanks, sofladavid!

1. Power off means OFF, not suspend. Hold power button.
2. Setting the Omnia to "As the modem through USB" is unnecessary, if not problematic.
3. The driver needs to completely install, such that when connected to the Omnia for the first time, the PC displays "new hardware found" and "software installed" messages. (after disabling USB in Activesync.)

When I tried the fully OFF method last night, I had not completely installed the driver yet (no messages). After the driver was properly installed, I never went back and tried fully OFF again.

Or possibly, the "modem through USB" setting was not the right one. At least, the update worked after Data Connection was set back to "Internal Data Call".

There is a message which pops up when you select Data Connection in SETTINGS that says "to use VZAccess Manager, you should select "As the modem through USB/Bluetooth." Don't let that confuse you as I did. It is either wrong or unnecessary.

Now to get back to playing.
