Exclamation "RPhoneMan" error - TOTAL storage card erase

On three separate occasions I have seen this error message: “The file RPhoneMan cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components can not be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file.”

This phenomenon only happens when I am tying to add movies/files to my storage card via “Mass “Storage”. When this error occurs it either freezes the phone for a minute and then everything returns to normal or, on two occasions (like today) it COMPLETELY erases/reformats my 8 gig internal storage. (Yes, I have the back up program to restore the phone BTW). My issue is that I have no clue as to why this is happening and I don’t know what the perfect storm of unknown factors may play a role in this inconvenience.

I have searched the board for “RPhoneMan” and similar issues but I came up with nothing.

1. Has this happened to anyone else or does anyone have a clue how I can stop this from happening in the future.

2. Is there some to do/don’t do checklist that insures a successful transfer every time?

3. Does it matter that you have some programs actively running, that are stored on the memory card, as you are doing a Mass storage transfer?

ANY assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

RPhoneman is part of Resco Contact Manager. I'm not sure how it relates to your storage being erased.

I can tell you that I have had lockups transferring though. I don't do that anymore, its quicker and safer to do it from PC to phone and the other way around.

Re: "RPhoneMan" error - TOTAL storage card erase

Rphoneman may be a red herring for the real problem, which is the internal flash. I had exactly the same problem (My Storage erased or corrupted) when transferring some large videos into My Storage. I finally bought a micro-SD (spend the $ for a fast one, IMO) and move big stuff back and forth to it.

If I had the time I would probably figure out a way to replicate this repeatedly so I can take it back in the store and get a new one. Maybe not. Until I saw your post I assumed I just had a flaky phone. Maybe the problem is more endemic...

Thanks for the reply. When you write "PC to phone" you are referring to the normal active sync way of doing it. Drop and drag from the PC to the storage file once Active Sync connects the phones right?

I was told that mass storage is the fastest. I just bought a new laptop and a 700 mb movie easily gets transferred in about 2 1/2 minutes. Can I expect the same thing with an Active Sync connection (if that is what you are talkling about).

In regards to the contact manager, the first time this happened i did not have that particular Resco Product. I had file manager and the keyboard.

Thanks.

Re: "RPhoneMan" error - TOTAL storage card erase

Im just going by whats on the Resco forums. Its not a Samsung file.

Anyway--I meant using Mass Storage mode from PC to phone, instead of phone-phone transfers.

I am open to any suggestions on a new card. However, 8 gig's, up to this point, has been fine. I keep 3 standard movies on the phone and then every week add three more. I go through roughly 3 movies riding back an forth to work for the week. I don't want this to be a problem that will keep popping up even if I buy a new card card.

The ONLY thing I can come up with, similarities wise, for the times my storage got completely erased is:

1. The first time I had MemMaid open. I cleared some space by deleting some files and I was ready to add more movies. With MemMaid open I connected the cable. Freez. Blink. "Unable to find Storage. Please reinstall bla, blah, blah... then my storage was gone.

2. This time I had a movie paused in Coreplayer then I connected the cable. Same error as listed above and storage erase.

7 out of ten times I connect the cable, no matter if I have something open or not, I get: "Windows has experienced a ___.exe problem. Would you like to send and error Report." I click no and keep moving and it is usually the end of it. I can still transfer and I am on my way. Not today though.

Both MemMaid and Coreplayer were stored on the 8 gig storage. Would them being opened AND being housed on the stroage play a part?

That is all I do. PC to phone transfers. I used to drag and drop movies into the phone storage using active sync. I was told that was to laborious. I was then directed by a Samsung rep to do it the mass storage way. When it works it is great. When it doesn't I am here lamenting.

Doh.

I totally misread this. I thought you were transferring from Storage Card to My Storage.

You know Windows can initiate a disk check on your storage card. See if it finds some filesystem errors.

No worries.

You are The Man on this board. Tell me how and I will try it.

Re: "RPhoneMan" error - TOTAL storage card erase

If memory serves me correctly...

Hook up your phone via mass storage mode. Go into My COmputer (or Computer, if its Vista), locate the drive, which will be ID'ed as a removable disk most likely.

Right click it, choose properties, click the tools tab, and choose error checking.

I might not have all those right steps, but if it doesnt get you in the right direction, let me know.
