Some apps specifically look for 2.1 to be the default. I can't remember which now, but I do recall my last hard reset, that was one of the first tweaks I did, and I had all sorts of problems installing applications. THey would give me a .netCF initialization error. Reverting the setting fixed the problem.

Just an FYI.
ive had no issues with spb products, but thats all ive really installed, if you could figure out which programs had 3.5 issues that would be fantastic.

Re: My Omnia experience (so far)

dopepope....It may not be so much the individual apps, but a combination of apps. I have had 3.5 for a while now without issue. PPCs are finicky things (OK....what in life ISN'T???) sometimes I install an app that won't work for a day or two, and then 'settles' in and starts working. Can't be explaines, but a lot can affect the inner-workings....Apps working/not working together, running at the same time, installed in a certain order (I installed S2V on my Omnia (afte a lot of other apps) and it wouldn't open at all, after a hard reset, I installed S2V second (after S2U2 and it worked great!!!

That being said, I am NOT saying an individual app won't clash with 3.5, it is very possible, I am just saying there are more scenarios!!

Re: My Omnia experience (so far)

I wasn't really indicating conflicts, more like certain apps expecting 2.1 to be the default vs. 3.5.

2.1 is still used, regardless of registry setting. Its just what apps look for what first.

Re: My Omnia experience (so far)

Alrighty guys,

I've just spent a couple hours with the SPB mobile shell and the imarch skinner. I think I'm hooked. Just the right amount of eyecandy and straight forward useablility. Giving the spb keyboard a whirl too.

Let me know how SPB works for you...I didn't like the way it worked on the Omnia, I went with RESCO, it seemed more stable, and the iskin is pretty finger-friendly!!

Question Re: My Omnia experience (so far)

My experience so far has been 50/50. I am sure that once I master the correct way to tweak registry's, cook ROM's and all the experience will be much better. However, as of now I am not as exited as I was when I was reading all the forums about the phone:

The good the bad the ugly as far.

good: surprised that i could actually download a 200mb movie in 20 minutes
bad: signal dropped from wi-fi six times for no reason so I had to watch it the full 20 minutes
ugly: This thing gets hella-hot. I have never had a phone get as heated as this thing!

good: can download large files and surf the web
bad: web gets a tad slow even though I have a good amount of memory available
ugly: touch sensitivity and operability goes out the freaking window at this point. no matter how hard I press (not so hard as to break the screen) it will not move.

This is by far the worst battery life I have ever experieinced with a phone.I get, on average. about 2 - 2/1/2 hours worth of use out of this thing before it is back to the charger. Half hour web, a few espn podcasts downloads, a couple of short calls and just being turned on, in general, wears this thing out. It also takes AT LEAST 2 hours for it to fully charge back up. Is this normal?

As you can read i am not impressed so far. However, I am not going to give up on the phone yet. It might be me in some cases. Has anyone else experienced these issuses since they got their i910?

Re: My Omnia experience (so far)

Make sure you condition your battery, turn off receive all beams, and turn on power management in the power settings. Along with leaving BT and Wifi off when not in use, I get a good 2 days before my phone starts to cannibalize itself to stay on. Also, constant email checks will hurt battery life. Set a longer duration between checks. Leave no app running in the background when the phone is idle.

I seriously cannot kill my battery in under 1 day, even if I leave bluetooth, and wifi on all day whole browsing the net and listening to music.

Re: My Omnia experience (so far)

Yeah... battery life is certainly not one of my complaints. I've turned off the beams, don't use the wifi, and only use the bluetooth when its paired with my car. I play a couple of games, do a little web surfing, have it check email every 5 minutes, and usually talk about 60 minutes a day. I can easily go 2 days before I have to plug it in.

I am beyond jealous. The only thing that I have not done, from your list is to set a longer duration for e-mails. Right now, I thing it is set to every 10 minutes. But really, is that enough for me to get only 2 1/2 hours of battery life?!? Bluetooth is on most of the time because I have headphones and listen to music all he time. I can't use the wi-fi @ work and it still decreases exponentially.

Do you know how much battery is consumed when you download files? I notice that bars get eaten up like Pac-Man when I am not plugged in and downoald podcasts...

a whole day you say?!?!?

Re: My Omnia experience (so far)

Yep. I can go a whole day, listen to 2 or so hours of music, take a few phone calls, a few SMS, and a bit of browsing, and have 75%+ left on battery the next day. In fact, it will charge to full within 20 minutes from that point on the wall charger.

Download of files DEFINATELY eats battery, and quickly. I've never downloaded anything quite so large though to really test it to an extreme.
