It is always locked when it gets there though. I am trying to find the key so that it doesn't automatically lock. OK Settings > mobile shell > Now Screen > check the box "Show the now screen when device wakes up" Now when I press the end call key it goes to the Now screen before it locks. Now if I can just find how to keep it from locking--can't change that selection in the "Buttons settings" yet. It won't deselect. Maybe I could program another button to turn off screen tnen back on. I know I can do that manually from anywhere and when it comes back on I'm in the Now screen. Then a single press of the end call key takes me immediately back to the Today screen.
We're almost there! If someone can script the toggling of the mouse-d-pad they could probably do this, too.
OK, a little different now. Mapped the Main Menu Key to [NOW], Main Menu Hold to <Today> Switches back and forth without the lock. Also works from just about anywhere from any program. I like it! Still wish I could do it from end call key with also locking it, though.

P.S. 750? Someone's popular
Bingo!
That was it.

Yeah 750 accumulated quickly when working as a MFG engineering consultant and then even faster when doing product design work. Each product had dozens of suppliers associated with it and each supplier could have numerous contacts. I suppose I should probably do some weeding though....

Re: A challenge to all gurus: Help me keep my phone!

Anyone: How many key strokes do you perform to send a text message?
I can send a simple text message in 10 minutes using only 15 easy steps!!
(Obviously, I have GOT to make this easier!)

Assuming I'm already on the right screen:

1) Select MMS icon
2) Click on the micro-sized "Menu" in lower right corner
3) Bring up "New"
4) Select "To"
5) Go back down to tiny menu and select "Add recipient". This brings up the horrible contacts with the micro abc cde fgh across the top - NOT my iContacts.
6) Once I finally select a name I click on "Subject"
7) Click on the keyboard to bring it up, then turn the phone to landscape mode so I can actually use the keyboard. I then type in a subject.
8 ) Down window the keyboard since I cannot see anything else.
9) Now I click on the empty space below the Subject for the message contents.
10) Tap on the keyboard to bring it up again and enter the message.
11) Tap on the keyboard off and on during the message so I can see it and then edit it again.
12) Push send.
13) Exit
14) Go to Task Manager and close program
15) Go back to main menu.

That is all there is to it!

Re: A challenge to all gurus: Help me keep my phone!

Ok...

From the today screen.

1. Tap Message.
2. Rotate phone, click Menu, new.
3. Open input panel (mapped to a key, which means I can close it just as easy), and type first few letters of recipient.
4. Press enter, which closes my keyboard, which closes keyboard, tap into message area.
5. Type my message, and hit send. Select the suggested recipient.

6. Hit the ok/X until the program exits. Because I use wkTask, it does exit.

Half as many steps, twice as efficient, no need to scroll contacts.

Plus...because there are only a few I regularly text to, I save their threaded messages, which cuts the steps down another 2 or three. On average, I can send a text faster than I could on my LG Dare.

For someone I have in a threaded conversation:

1. Click name.
2. Open input panel and type.
3. Hit send.

Thats it.

Tips:

If I need something with a different interface, I use VITO SMS-Chat.
SPB Keyboard has a setting to close the input panel when hitting enter.
Use the power of suggestion (ha ha) when sending to a contact.
Go into iContact and send an SMS that way. Cut down more steps. I'd outline how, but my phone is doing a scheduled backup, and I can't interfere.

One thing that is a bit confusing: Folks often combine programs. For example, the phone came with a contacts manager that plays well with MS Contacts on the PC. But, installing Shell gives you another contacts manager. But then, some install yet another - dedicated - contacts manager such as Pocket CM or, in my case iContacts. Doesn't this potentially cause what people are referring to as "bricking" the phone?

How do you deal with S2U2 in conjunction with making calls? Right now I have the camera button mapped to S2U2 to lock the screen quickly and I'm trying out the slide to answer feature....which I'm not sure has much benefit.

So, you use Memmaid? Does that negate the need to map a button to the Task Manager? I have considered mapping the top right button to the task manager to quickly close programs but I'm getting sick of having to manually close programs all the time.

Hey, do you use a blue tooth stereo headset by chance? I'm attempting to find a good one so I can use the MP3 player as well as make calls while my phone remains protected in bad weather. A major problem I'm running into: The music cuts out fairly often. It is thoroughly obnoxious. At first I thought it was a transmission problem of the blue tooth itself but now I'm not too sure since the songs appear to come back on in the same spot. I would think if it was a transmission problem a portion of the song would be skipped while it was out. This makes me think there is a problem with the phone playing MP3s. I have also considered that maybe it is being affected by other programs clogging things up or by an Internet connection running in the background but turning all those off does not help.

Sorry....missed this one. I don't find the contact managers clash at all really. I don't use the Omnia's at all, and I have a script that makes it so after you set the speed-dials in Shell PocketCm pops up when I hit the 'contacts' button in Shell's speed-dial screen.

I do use Memmaid, but I don't use it as a 'task manager' I prefer a quicker screen like with the HTC one, or magicbutton. Memmaid works great, but to me for 'just' closing apps, a bit more than I want for that 'quick' function.

Re: A challenge to all gurus: Help me keep my phone!

Well, here's a new one!
I have about 2.5 gigs loaded into My Storage. When I check folder by folder it verifies this. However, when I check the little pie chart it shows it COMPLETELY FULL. I cannot write any more to the drive. I've looked at everything I can think of.....but I still get this discrepancy with no explanation!
This has halted my current efforts at downloading custom Spb skins.....

-----------

Oh, and what is "Scan Status" When I did a soft reboot, apparently that file is "missing a component" as I was told upon screen startup......

Check your recycled folder. It is hidden.

Thanks!
I found some instructions on how to see the hidden files: Tap and hold near the end of the file list and then select "see all files" on the pop up menu. OK, done. Scrolling through I still don't see any other files besides the ones I put there...............

I'm like a rat in a maze! Continually running down paths I'm sure will be a way out only to find another set of paths filled with avalanche debris...

I downloaded and installed the monger program. When I launch it, I get this:
Quote:
The application failed to load required components. If the .NET Compact Framework is installed on a storage card, please ensure that this card is in place....
etc...
What the hell is .NET, why do I need it, where do I get it etc..??
So, it appears I need to download another program so I can run the program that will allow me to see files I cannot see so I can delete them so I can use my phone storage again...?? Will I then need a program to actually do the deleting once I am allowed to see the files?
