Re: A challenge to all gurus: Help me keep my phone!

This program looks like it is just a visual map showing memory. I don't see any readme files or instructions of any kind. Only a note about how I might have to download another program - and that program looks utterly beyond me.

So how DO I free up the space that is magically taking up memory on My Storage?

This has to be a rather common problem and I have trouble believing everyone with this problem spends a full day on it. Isn't there a basic utility that allows me to delete files I want deleted?!

Re: A challenge to all gurus: Help me keep my phone!

Thanks

Its pretty easy. Just install it, run it, scan the area you are wondering about and it braks it down. Then, double tapping takes you to that area, if memory serves.

It looks complicated, but its not. Very basic. The larger chunk something takes, the more space, etc. Try it out. I find it very useful, because it can even check out dll files.

With this program, I am able to keep my Omnia's main memory clear, with 25mb to spare (and 27 apps installed!). If it drops down to less, I fire it up and see what is taking it.

This has been a fun thread to read......

I half expected CMASS to look like this...

Don't give up CMASS!!

I should finally get my Omnia sometime this week. Coming from a Sprint Touch. Of all the forums I've been to. When it comes to tweaking the daylights out of your device, nothing comes close to PPCGeeks!

If you haven't figured it out yet CMASS, what some might calls shortcomings in a device we call "A tweak that hasn't been found yet" This is the silent advatage to the Windows Mobile platform.

I can't wait to finally get mine so I can start fiddleing with it :)

Re: A challenge to all gurus: Help me keep my phone!

A simple explanation:

sectres96.dll (black samsung today 2 theme) and FavoriteSettings (ripped from new Omnia ROM) are taking an equal amount of space in the \Windows folder. They are both the largest things in the folder.

Does that make sense? I don't want to break it all down, and all the little boxes...well, I can't. This is only useful to show large memory hogs.

Aha! But herein lies the problem. It will not run because it supposedly requires another ".NET" program to be installed first. I've Googled around looking for instructions or tips concerning this program but all I can find are a few comments from people reviewing the program who say it does not work like it is finished yet and/or they cannot run it because it requires some .NET thingy to be installed.

OK, you can SEE what is taking up memory....but by golly can you DELETE those files? OR, do you need the experimental Superdeleter Beta version from Constipation Enterprises to actually delete the files?

Re: A challenge to all gurus: Help me keep my phone!

It should also be noted that if you have mostly free space, this utility is worthless.

Point in case, Check out My Storage, (where I have all my downloads and apps installed), and My Storage Card, which has music, movies and backups.

I just want to make certain that if the PC gods actually allow me to get this program running that it will allow me to not only see the files but to delete them as well - without another program. I am anticipating this issue because right now, I can neither see them nor delete them. I would assume if I can see them, I could delete them but I am now convinced I should not assume anything. Everything appears to be piecemeal so I can't assume the viewer program will do anything more than view.

As for .NET. What the hell is it? Why do I need to load it onto my phone? (besides getting the other program to run) The descriptions of it make it look like something a software developer might be interested in.
The summary:
Quote:
The Microsoft® .NET Compact Framework 3.5 Redistributable contains the common language runtime and class libraries built for the .NET Compact Framework.
Granted, I'm not the brightest bulb in the house, but I'm nothing if not tenacious and I can't see Joe Sixpack spending a full day trying to figure out how to delete a few files. There has to be a quick easy way to do this.

Re: A challenge to all gurus: Help me keep my phone!

Like anything else, you need something that can translate what a program has been written in. For an OS to understand .net programs, .net framework must be installed.

Same thing if you wanted to run a perl program. You would need to have Perl installed.

Python....same thing.

This will not be a program to delete files, but to find what is taking space. IF you only filled 2.6gb of My Storage, then the rest needs to be accounted for, and I would think this program can do that.
