Re: Any hope of GPS unlock for Verizon Omnia?

I see a GPSAPI.DLL, GPS_XTRA.EXE, GPSA.DLL, GPS Settings.exe, plus a lot of registry references to the Qualcomm drivers. If I could get a regdump of a working phone and the dlls and drivers I would invest the time to troubleshoot.

Actually, there aren't any non-Verizon versions of the i910 yet, that is why we are a bit excited about Bell picking it up. As Alkenhoffer mentioned...that way may work.

Re: Any hope of GPS unlock for Verizon Omnia?

Good question (and welcome to the community BTW), I am really not sure what that would result in. I know until other carriers pick-up the i910 it was only made for Verizon, so it is made to their specifications/restrictions. It would be interesting to see if anyone does this, or what happens after Bell comes out with it.

On a side note...only a few months left before this should all be moot.....as long as VZW follows through with their promise!!!!

Re: Any hope of GPS unlock for Verizon Omnia?

Just for clarification, does the omnia have real (satellite) GPS, or AGPS(celltower triangulation)?

Both. It's not a either or scenario. AGPS is real GPS, but uses the cell towers to get a quick fix on the location so it knows which satellites to lock on to vs having to scan for every known satellite. If the cell signal is not available it'll attempt to use the cached sat data to get a lock or do it the old fashion way and you'll have to wait 10+ minutes for a fix.

Re: Any hope of GPS unlock for Verizon Omnia?

That really depends on AT&T's policies on GPS. I doubt it is locked, I think they allow GPS to be used on their devices, but if you catch up with a member in here using AT&T, they should be able to let you know.

T-Mobile has the Behold that is the same phone from Samsung, don't know if it has GPS opened, I know someone that works there and I'll see if I can get some scoop.
