If you want a copy Google is your best friend (search SwypeOmnia).

Are you serious?
"Until they offer..."
What, they have some sort of obligation to offer one and theft is ok until they do?

Let me ask you this...

You have a car. I steal the car and say "until he offers rentals its ok to steal it"
Is it ok then?

i think you miss the point. many of us would buy it if it was for sale. I can get hacked versions of my paid for apps for free but I chose to pay for them. the makers of swype have made that option nill. and yeah Id steal your car if that was the ONLY option to get my pregnant wife to a hospital. not saying I need swype,Ive chosen not to get it until its legally released $ or free

See, now there is a difference about stealing my car if your wife was pregnant and stealing my car to go on a joyride. (not that stealing is right even if your wife was pregnant, but it is understandable). No one will die without swype. no one will be hurt. therefore, regardless you are stealing...
do you see my point?

but before the makers of swype said dont use it was it stealing? Im not big on piracy and patent laws so Im truly asking that and not just debating that.if I extracted my document reader app and gave it away would that be stealing?
Im not interested in swype perse but the whole free .cabs is something Ive wondered which are legal and which are not.

Technically, when it came out and was cabbed up for use on other devices, it was theft. When you installed it, did you accept Swypes Terms and Conditions? Unless it said in their something about cabbing it out of another device and redistributing it being ok, it was theft. Most software say explictly "No redistribution!" However, some companies intentionally leak software because they get free beta testing. And some don't care so they let it go.

However, when a company comes to the board and says "Stop, this is theft", they are showing that they do NOT want anyone but the people who have a license to use the software to use it. and the only people with a license are people with a omina2...

To sum it up (because I didn't write it so clear)...
  • If you do not have a license from the company saying it is ok to use/own i, you are stealing.
  • Most companies don't care because they get free beta testing out of it.
  • Unless a maker asks for his software to be pulled, or it is only available for purchase, PPCG usually allows it.

"In the meantime, enjoy using Swype and please look out for a better, more integrated, and legal version coming soon to a phone near you."

I interpret this as saying, those of you who installed this prior to the time of the swype team's post, are free to use the software, just don't give it to anyone or ask us for any help.

I, for one, love this software...whenever they do ask for cash I will gladly give them cash.

Naturally those of you asking for new languages and features should wait until we launch a device in your market. Obviously, we won't support unlicensed versions of our software.

The Swype Team

PS. Our lawyer has asked us to remind everyone about copyright infringement and to inform you that Swype reserves all of its rights.

Several things stand out at me...
  1. but we are obligated to state that we don't condone such activity
  2. Obviously, we won't support unlicensed versions of our software.
  3. and legal version coming
  4. PS. Our lawyer has asked us to remind everyone about copyright infringement and to inform you that Swype reserves all of its rights.
  5. In the meantime, enjoy using Swype
Now...to the interpreting board...
  1. We don't want you to do this...
  2. We aren't giving support since this is a illegal copy of the program
  3. the version you are using is illegal (see above)
  4. you are infringing on our copyright since you don't have a license...and our lawyer....wait a lawyer...considering legal action? maybe a DMCA takedown notice?
  5. You don't give a damn about our wishes...proven by the fact you are re-distributing our software without our permission....so enjoy since nothing we say is going to make a difference....
Obviously they don't want it out for the masses yet...that is why they won't sell a copy...
