O2 SWYPE Keyboard Working On i900/i910

Thought I would share my find with you all just in case you guys don't already know.

The Omnia 2 Keyboard has been successfully ported by leo001.

I have been using it for 3 hours and I'm already typing faster (swyping) than I ever did before.

Check it out here.

Enjoy!

ps. I was so happy with the keyboard I donated some $$. If your happy to it would be nice to show some tangible gratitude.

Yeah I downloaded and started using it last night. It's cool that it actually includes a tutorial to get you more in touch with it's capabilities. There is a learning curve to deal with, but if you can get through a couple hours of figiting with it, you will get the hang of it. One thing I do NOT like is that for the Omnia, it is not finger-friendly. Using a stylus...it is amazing. But who wants to use a stylus all the time? Great job either way, Leo. I am so glad that there are smart people in this world to do these things for us!!

It's a lot easier if you use it in landscape mode. Either way this is a cool app once you get use to it.

Thanks. This should help me with my decision about getting the O2. Swype is a plus right now, only because I hope it will be a good input method for me. But that might turn out to be a false hope. Now I can find out before I make the decision.

Thank you so much! That is by far the coolest keyboard I've ever had the opportunity to use on my Omnia. Yeah, it was a bit of a learning curve, but once I figured out what I was doing it was remarkably easy to use. I don't even really have much of an issue with using my finger on it since it's so good at guessing what I meant. Great find!

The omnia 1 might be a little too narrow to fully enjoy swype

It works great with the stylus; also using my finger is fine but it needs a fingernail to get it to work, which feels like i'm scratching the screen. Capacitive screen would probably be fantastic for this purpose.

Some of the first Omnia's had a problem with the touchscreen. The problem had to do with the screen being less responsive. I got the Omnia in Jan 09, and was happy with it but I did need to use my finger nail for typing. When I got a replacement in June I couldn't believe the difference, it was 100x better.

Maybe this is your problem. Swype works perfect on my Omnia even though I have large fingers. On my first Omnia I probably would have to use my fingernail as well.

There is already a Swype keyboard for Android (not made by the same company but the functionality is the same). Just look in the market.

I did try it and it seemed to work just fine. It was $10 though which was to much in my opinion. This link is for the trial.

http://www.androlib.com/android.appl...oard-qjxi.aspx

It looks like they dropped the price. It is $6.99 now.

I can attest to this as well. I bought my Omnia as soon as it was available on the website in early Dec 09. Just recently the bottom part of the screen gradually became completely unresponsive and I had it replaced. The new Omnia is fantastic very responsive and I no longer need to use my nail to swipe or slide to unlock.

We see you have re-packaged our software and are distributing it. We are glad to hear that you guys like Swype, but we are obligated to state that we don't condone such activity nor support the result. Naturally those of you asking for new languages and features should wait until we launch a device in your market. Obviously, we won't support unlicensed versions of our software.

In the meantime, enjoy using Swype and please look out for a better, more integrated, and legal version coming soon to a phone near you.

Regards,
The Swype Team

PS. Our lawyer has asked us to remind everyone about copyright infringement and to inform you that Swype reserves all of its rights.

Re: O2 SWYPE Keyboard Working On i900/i910

Dear Swype team: First of all, congratulations on an excellent application.

Secondly, I, for one (and there are probably many of us), would delete the software and not use it, if you prefer. Let us know. Also, I'd pay a reasonable price for a license to use it if/when you decide to distribute.

For what its worth, in the meantime you're getting a LOT of good press, response, excitement and beta testers on several device platforms and from several forums like this one. I realize that's not REAL money in the bank, but the feedback and free, positive word of mouth publicity IS worth something.

I am not a moderator and I don't speak for anybody on this forum but myself, but please let us know if you'd prefer that I/others would uninstall Swype.

Thanks!

Except that there has been communication with the developers of Swype. They have asked for the removal of cab files from sites like Modaco. Oh, in case you think that is fake too, Modaco contacted them to confirm.

I'm so glad you joined JUST to type that garbage spewing from your keyboard. Apparently you don't know how this board, modaco, and many others like it DO verify these claims. A major reason I frequent them is because of their attention to detail.

Anyone getting a space put in front of the first word they type, noticing this in Vito Sms Chat and the stock sms client. I can delete it and carry on, but its annoying as i have to delete the first word and the space and retype the first word. I dont get it with the stock keyboard for the omnia, just Swype. Im using the latest lioryte rom and spb if that really matters.

I'm seeing the same thing. Haven't tested it yet, but wondering if it is caused by a manual capital letter request, rather than letting it do it automatically.

....I don't know.....

Are you using the correct version? Try to find the swypeOmnia.cab.

No because the swype developers came on here and other sites complaining and asked that it be removed.

What is the status on Swype, now? I saw a lot of posts and threads about it being removed, but is it OK to post CABs?

Re: O2 SWYPE Keyboard Working On i900/i910

Nope. The Swype folks didn't appreciate their software being given away for free.

Re: O2 SWYPE Keyboard Working On i900/i910

Until the swype team offer a keyboard we can pay for and use, I see no problem using it.

If you want a copy Google is your best friend (search SwypeOmnia).

Not until the developer gives us the OK. Sorry
