your first posted asked about Odin, then about using sdk tools.

root access is not required to apply a custom kernel as stated in all the custom kernel threads.

what are you trying to achieve and why?
once you can decide what you want to do, it'll be much easier to find the correct directions.

all the benefits to a custom kernel are stated in all the custom kernel threads. it is less efficient for me to duplicate the answers already easily available to you by some simple searches and reading!

i want to remove all the sprint junk i can that i will never use. aka sprint bloat ware

the kernel idk ill have to check about them i was under the impression that you have to have root inorder to install a new kernel

you have to have root to remove stock sprint apps
you don't need root to install the kernel, just Odin.
the custom Ze* kernel provides permanent root access to the phone
hopefully that helps set everything straight!
