Notes for Sprint Mogul w/ latest WM6
Got this working wonderfully on my Mogul, thanks for a great package! A few notes for the PPC6800:
Zip of the extras mentioned is attached! 1. Landscape needs a lot of work (perhaps I'll do it), but this is really for the normal view anyway and it doesn't crash the phone or anything. 2. Go ahead and install the Game w/ Dock theme -- it is a bit of a pain to create your own dock and after setting it all up you'll want to get all your shortcuts set and working. 3. In Step 2: "\Program Files\Lakeridge\Wisbar Advance\Themes" doesn't exist, so just create it (the Themes folder). Because of this, you won't get any of the warnings mentioned. 4. Also in Step 2: tap and hold in a blank spot at the top, not the top-left exactly. I was able to get the little WBA Desktop menu by holding next to the battery. If "Settings" isn't second from bottom, you have the wrong menu. 5. In Step 5: I installed SPB Clock, but if you get the latest slide2unlock, it has a clock and can show appointments. SPB Clock just seemed too big and buggy to be worth my while, so I actually unistalled it at the end (and the skin). Feel free to skip it if you don't need a second clock. Also, you can alter the title bar to show the time and date on all programs, soooo..... 6. In Step 6: Use the latest Slide2Unlock -- they're up to version 0.72. It is very nice and customizable without any freezing (so far) and development is happening daily. 7. In Step 7: The dialer included is a bit odd, so I decided to replace it. I tried a few different ones and settled on the iphone.cab (attached) in the zip halfway down this page (also a nice skin for gCalc): http://hackaddict.blogspot.com/2007/...bile-skin.html It's very smooth and integrates well with the other changes. That link gives a similar way to make your WM like an iPhone, but the method here is less complicated. Worth a read, though. FYI, the Mogul has the latest .NET framework, so you shouldn't need to install it for things like Weather Watcher Mobile 8. For a threaded SMS, I like smiley's and low complexity. The one called "shogunmark_wm6_threaded" (attached, can't recall the link) has been my favorite after trying several others and works seamlessly with the Mogul and this iPhone package. Very much like the Treo's SMSing. No MMS (Sprint/CDMA limitation I think). 9. In Customization: The title bar shows tiny icons of open programs, but if you include the "Verizon" image (or whatever text you want) it pushes them off the screen. They reappear in landscape. I saw no need for any text up there, so I just removed the custom1_normal.png from the phone and the little icons now show. 10. If you're like me, you'll use a different app for SMS, but still use Outlook for grabbing all your email. For the shortcut to the Mail part of Outlook, use "\Windows\AppButtons\Messaging.lnk" and it'll take you to a view of all your email accounts. Similarly, if you want to see unread email counts, create the little red buttons and text using "%Unread:AccountName%" as the Text to Display, so if your account is "Gmail1" it would be "%Unread:Gmail1%". Very cool. 11. I put one of those red buttons with text to show my unread SMS texts on the top corner of the SMS icon (see the Picasa album in the first post). If you play with the "Bring to Front" and "Send to Back" options, you can make them stay and only show on the first page. You don't have to restrict them to the bottom dock. 12. Finally, for a calculator, there is gCalc (attached) and a very nice skin in the link to the zip I put in (7) above. I'll try to get some screen shots, but it's all pretty much the same as the album. I also included a registry editor so you can tweak S2U2. That's all I can think of for getting this working nicely on a Mogul. Don't forget to read the Edits on the first post! Thanks again, lazyboy! [Edit] Just had two freezes when in landscape, so don't do too much switching from apps to the desktop in landscape! I attached some screen shots. Last edited by jasonmac; 11-01-2007 at 02:54 AM. Reason: Noted a crash in landscape, adding screen shots |

nice write up, can the dialer be skinned or is it just the fish background included?

WA version, dialer skin on Mogul

The dialer seems to be just a piecemeal skin -- all the images are in the "\Windows" directory and can be changed. |

The working link was a Christmas gift a few pages back. Read through the thread -- all questions will be answered! Some of what I wrote was already mentioned in previous posts. I just verified it all works on the Mogul.

I'm going to install WA3 today and try to get the theme working with it (my last attempt was not successful so I reverted).
I also like the iphone dialer... especially since I can put my background in it. I like tiermann's dialer skin mod, but this one seems more Iphoneish. thanks for the dialer cab. Let you know how it goes.
