Re: EVO not WORTH the switch

I'm really on the Fence over the Evo. The Mogul was my first real smart phone, and As a Former TP and current TP2 user, I'm still in the frame of mind that Window Mobile can do SO much, that I'll have a hard time moving to Android. For example.... Exchange functionality is pretty important to me, and I also like the Freedom that I have with customizing Windows Mobile.

I've been looking around the internet, and Have been delighted to see that there are several alternatives for most of the apps I use on Windows Mobile.. So that a great thing...

Honestly, the thing thats keeping me from running out right this second and getting an Evo to try out, are two things:

1. I would really like to be able to easily switch between my Evo and TP2 if for some reason I found a bug, or I needed to use my TP2 for something. I'm not sure if Sprint has an easy way to switch between what phone your number is active on.

2. I'm pretty sure, if the Evo Launch is anything like the TP2's... Every sprint store within a 2 hour drive will be sold out for the next 2 months. haha. Maybe sprint smartened up though, and made sure to have HTC send each store an extremely larger order.

Well your #1 reason is easy.. Just go to Sprint.com and go to activate new device and you can easily switch between 2 devices.. Takes about 5 mins and you can do it how many times you like..

Number 2 is a little more difficult.. I bought mine from Best Buy and they were sold out.. A friend of mine says they still have a few in his store but that was like yesterday morning so I don't know they may be out by now..

Number 1 is great news. So great infact, that It just made me take the plunge and order the Evo from sprint.

Number 2, isn't very good :P. I called 18 stores in my area, including best buy. They are all sold out. I ordered online. Hopefully it'll ship quickly.

Curious about this. Say I switch back to my Touch Pro2, do they remove the $10 fee. Then add it back on if I activate the EVO again???

Thanks to the smart people at HTC, the Evo supports MS Exchange, the only problem is it won't do tasks. contacts, calendar and email you're made in the shade. in fact when you go to add a non gmail email account the first thing it asks is Exchange or Other POP/IMAP

your 1. sprint.com with master account login or call CS, i called in to do a swap on friday morning and they got it done fairly quickly for me
your 2. i'm sure Evo sales are destroying the TP2 sales. i dropped some numbers in another thread somewhere but yesterday afternoon radioshack released 500 Evos for direct order fulfillment and they were gone in about 6 hrs, so if you're gonna take to plunge, call around and try to make arrangements, radioshack is doing another round of guaranteed preorders through tomorrow to be delivered by the 11th so call ahead and make sure they can still sign you up

Re: EVO not WORTH the switch

$#@! google. They harvest all your information and sell it to the highest bidder. They are also against net neutrality. Support filtering your content (china was a beta test..) They want corps to pay them big $'s to put their search results in front of your face. Who would want to continue to support these appholes?

sure 4.3 inches rule and tp2 has had its share of issues (which is why i ran a stock rom again for so long) but the 5" and likely 3d screens are coming to wm in the next year and max sense has transformed my phone until then.

I am sure that 4g would be great and I will partake of it soon. I am 1000% positive that screen is amazing. until then i will enjoy my new responsive slick interface that blows away googles lame data mining technology. max really has put everything at your fingertips. ahhhh... I cant wait to have xbox games on my device etc. oh wait yes i can my tp2 just got a whole lot more interesting and im sure one day soon here i could dualboot into android with full functionality.

I could be wrong but droid os/apps seem really iphoneish.. and sure games on iphone etc are better than wm devices now in many cases but they are about to have their asses handed to them.

I am sure that some jerkwad is going to say. well i have the money ill just continue to get the better technology as it comes out. Thing is sometimes the bad guys leap ahead and its all about making choices.

Bottom line the only thing this phone has over the tp2 when you strip everything away is: a bigger screen; faster cpu; 4g; ram; possibly battery;. The rest is a negative not a positive, and these issues will be rectified and 1 upped shortly. some of it is mitigated through the continuing development of roms in this forum.

Support freedom of choice and not confined markets of controlled apps. That is what we are all here for anyway isnt it?

also while I wait there are plenty of things you can do with this phone that you cant do with a googley iphone. I do all sorts off crap with this phone including controlling my laptop connected to my 46 lcd using gremote etc. I could go on and on about it, but bottom line;

It does Everything I need it to do and more and am always happily suprised in many cases to find multiple solutions for when I find new "more"s to do (not its coming next year.../or IF the platform gets good developers) Windows mobile is tried and true the development is out there and massive; the hype about wm dying is just google marketing the sheep like apple did. Guess they learned how to bs from the best.

Thank you for your attention.
Please drive thru.

i'm talking behind the scenes (coding etc..) not the interface. As we can expect with just about any ppc, modifications will commence and make the interface customizable how we like remember?
