I just purchased a m-1000 by Holux. My main use is for car navigation with my 700wx. I use iGuidance v4.0 and it works great. Its not as pretty as TomTom nor as smooth but it has the most updated/complete maps. Maps and poi's are whats important to me.
Anyways I purchased the m-1000 from a ebay vendor GPS4EvyOne. Shipping was good and I paid just a little over 50 for the unit. It included the unit a car and home charger. Im very happy with my purchase and im never lost. I got this because im about to move to another state and I hate learning new places lol. |

I also have the Holux M-1000. I don't use it much on my Treo though and I have iGuidance which I got for the CarPuter which is where I use the GPS more. But it works like a charm.

Thanks guys, I think I'll grab that one off ebay.
I have access to TomTom 6 already, so I think I'll just go with that so I don't have to spend more money. |

So is this chipset more accurate than the sirf III? Forgive me if this is a flat out stupid question I'm not too familiar w/ gps sets. I do on the other hand plan on getting one for my wx just like j-rad.

What exactly does this Holux M-1000 do? I am purchasing a TomTom 910GO tonight, but if this does the trick, I may return it. I was looking, and couldn't (at least yet) find a site to tell me specifics such as: How do you use this with your Treo? What do you need on your Treo, and how does it impact the phone (memory, slowing down phone....), and what is the output....voice command, text-to-speach......?
I appreciate any input on this, I would really like to know, because the $350 difference really makes me look twice!!! Thanks |

Ok the m-1000 is just a gps bluetooth receiver all it does is send gps information through bluetooth to the phone. You then need a program to read this information correctly such as TomTom or iGuidance.
TomTom will tell you what way to turn and how far verbally as well as show the map and arrows on screen just like the stand alone TomToms. iGuidance will do the same but will also say the street name as long as you have v4.0. But it still doesn't look as good as TomTom . But there maps seem more updated with more poi's to me. Both programs will make a impact as there is a huge map to render along with the real time gps information its being feed from the m-1000. You will notice it chug along if you for instance go out to do a text and let the program run in the background. Its not horrible but it is noticeable. As far as the chip set it uses the latest MTK instead of SiRFstarIII. I found a good little review along with some test showing the m-1000 compared to a SiRFstarIII device. gpspassionDOTcom/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=86200 Please fix the DOT to a . since I cannot post links as of yet. Thats a good place to read up on gps devices and even how to mod them! |

Thanks for all the information. That will give me a bit to think about. I like having GPS on my phone, but I don't know if I like that much memory usage, and I also like the idea of a stand-alone device. I will read more on the site you posted, and weigh the pros and cons. Thanks again!!

Today I got a Blackberry 7290 from a friend, not gonna activate it or anything but I was thinking I could just use it for GPS in my car (bought the m-1000 today), but then I realized theres no speaker phone so I can't have it talk to me and tell me the directions lol..
so I'll just stick with the Treo and TomTom 6.. Thanks for the recommendation on the gps guys. |
