If so where did you get the updater from? Or did someone in the back room of a store do it for you? |

I went in to the Sprint store in DC, and I spoke with the tech who looked it up on his screen in front of me, and the only thing the software update does it include the SMS patch that is out there. Since some people arent as technically motivated as us, it allows them to have the non-geeks get the SMS patch installed.
So, no real reason to get this as far as I can see at this point. |

Well 700wxUser made it sound like there was an updater that would update the rom. The patch from the Palm site does not update the rom so every time you hard reset you have to reapply the patch. It would be nice if we could get our hands on the updater if one exists to make it permanent.

I agree with hannip. I do I hard reset way to often. as hannip as my witness (lol), all a person has to do is hard reset and reload there apps and forget the patch. this could be bad news thinking that verizon and tmoble people were getting your messages and really not. in hannips case, I reloaded everything but the patch and then sent him a message which sent him into 1/2 hell. if you don't know what that is, it's not good.
anyhow, I would love to have the patch in my rom. |

I'd like to think they (Sprint/Palm) are holding off on an official ROM update b/c they want to include it in a 1.15 ROM that actually fixes other issues/new AKU, etc and that having 2 ROM updates released within X months would be confusing for everyone (it's already happening with the Sprint SMS notification: is it a "newer" patch everyone asks?; also they probably don't assume most of their users are doing weekly hard resets )
It does make sense though internally to have a new ROM just for when they make new 700wxs it fixes the issue. I have noticed that doing a system restore via SPB backup does keep the SMS patch, so unless you are doing a full and clean Hard reset every time I don't find it too much of an inconvenience. OTOH, once we get a ROM we can start to customize |
