Re: 3+ weeks w/ the pre (vs sprint touch pro)
Yeah have to agree just a matter of personal pref at this point. Can't wait for thursdays update. I still have hope and I am getting more use to the Pre. After the update I think it will be better. Oh and I use my phone to take quick video of my bands jam sessions for future song ideas, so the video is important to me. Not everyone uses it but I certainly did. The pre is growing on me but it will take some more time. Keyboard is still too small, but then again the touch pro's was so good (when it worked) it's not a fair comparison. If I had went from the instinct to this I would have been in heaven.

Re: 3+ weeks w/ the pre (vs sprint touch pro)
Alright, have to admit that the Pre is definitely growing on me. Coming from winmo, it's quite a change but i'm actually starting to like the simplicity of the device. Still a few things I don't like but more and more I do. I think if your a business user than it's lacking. As a recreational user it's good and will only get better in time

Re: 3+ weeks w/ the pre (vs sprint touch pro)
Well, today I decided to return the Pre. Started having issues with it turning off by itself. It turns out there is an issue with the battery being just a little too small and it comes apart from the contacts of the phone.
This was the last straw. I really wanted to like this phone but every corner I turned with it was just another dissappointment. To me, this is the largest dissapointment in a smart phone I've ever had. As a business user I find it unreliable and useless. Calender doesn't sync correctly, random power offs, no flash support, no video, no web downloads, app catalog is undesirable and still in beta... No message notifier if the phone's screen is off (blinking LED), speaker isn't up to par, keyboard too cramped, the list goes on and on... I really was hoping for a lot more, and just wound up frustrated. I thought about going back to an HTC Touch Pro 2, but have decided to finally bite the bullet and go BlackBerry. My Tour will be in on Tuesday and it can't come quick enough. |

That is a very common issue, but an easy fix is to put a piece of folded up paper in between the top of the battery and its compartment

Re: 3+ weeks w/ the pre (vs sprint touch pro)
I just personally dont see how anyone could think Webos isnt better than Winmo. Ive been on Winmo devices for years now and done every tweak in the book to get the phone to my standards but when I had the pro it seemed that you had to disable the nice GUI to get a smooth experience or you had to have a jerky and slowly bogged down phone to not have to click 50 buttons to do something simple.
Winmo 6.5 was a good upgrade for me but I still saw it as winmo5 with a nice GUI on it. What annoyed me the most was the amount of time it took to do the simplest of things. It would take nearly 30 seconds just to boot up the camera app and take a shot, with my pre it takes no more than 10. To search for something on PIE or opera would take more than a minute, the ability to just open the pre keyboard and type whatever im looking for and click GOOGLE or WIKIPEDIA is more awesome than I can explain. For example, my brother asks me who the QB for Tampa was and the name had slipped my mind so I just slid the keyboard up and typed QB FOR TAMPA BAY and clicked google and what do I see? BYRON LEFTWICH on the first screen. That would have taken me a minute or more to do on WM. I just see that even if they are IMPROVING winmo its too little too late, ive been waiting for years to find a phone that works this well and this fast without having to shell out $80 a month.

Re: 3+ weeks w/ the pre (vs sprint touch pro)
I played with the pre the pther day and i fell in love. but the onm;ly thing that I hated and killed the phone was the tiny crampt KB. My thumbs are too big for it.
But other than that it does 100x better in every aspect in what the Pro1 and pro2 does. Youtube is crystal clear and does not skip. Pictures are beautiful and multitouch. Internet browser is butter smooth and plays music beautifully. ANd the OS is just pretty and does multi task incredibly! Some Pro1 and Pro2 just lagg like hell in.So it took really 15 minutes and hANDS DOWN the Pre is 10000 times better than WM5,6.1,6.5 and any HTC device in the market. If you just do browsing, picture, youtube, and love to multitask them all. The Pre is for you. I kinda look at the Pre like what the Pro1 and specially the Pro2 should have been and would have been is only HTC would have released the drivers for it. But they got greedy and screwed everyone. They lost me as a customer. Period. |

Re: 3+ weeks w/ the pre (vs sprint touch pro)
I kept my TP2 thinking I could always go back if I didn't really get into the Pre since my husband sorta surprised me with it. The more I use it the more I love it. Even the tiny squished keyboard. I am getting better with it.

Re: 3+ weeks w/ the pre (vs sprint touch pro)
I had the pre for a while, but had to return it. Don't get me wrong the os is far better than wm right now, but it did not fair for me as a work device. I quickly fell in love with the phone and all of the things that it did better than my touch pro, but when it came down to work docs and editing I found I needed wm for this. I did search like a mad man for a program that would let me do this without going thru converting and then converting back. But one does not exist yet.
Bottom line is if u have a chance to get a pre I wouldn't hesitate. The phone is just remarkable. I can't wait for the 2ne tweaked version |

Quote:
I have a palm pre, brand new sitting on the counter, it is my 5th replacement....two, volume quit working, one screen cracked where you touch the phone icon, another, the screen just froze and did nothing, sprint replaced all of then for me, no questions asked, last time they offered me a tp2 which arrived fri, and is now activated. Honestly, i love the pre, hate the hardware (itz chincie) love the tp2 hardware, not to sure about the os...I dont know, which device to keep...thoughts from the group?? |
