Re: 3+ weeks w/ the pre (vs sprint touch pro)
You have to buy their books. I already have tons of existing ebooks, not to mention I can buy ebooks for half the price that Shortcovers wants.

Re: 3+ weeks w/ the pre (vs sprint touch pro)
Give it some time, I'm at a week now and I'm faster than I ever was on the Touch Pro. Of course I had Treos before I switched to WinMo, so going back to this style of keyboard wasn't too tough for me.

Re: 3+ weeks w/ the pre (vs sprint touch pro)
Typing on the Pre is easy if you've every typed on the Centro or Treo Pro it's about the same.
The price of Short Covers books is about the same as Fictionwise and MobiPocket. Also, if you look on PreCentral they've figured out a way to read your existing books. I'm a person that will only read a book once so that's never a problem for me. |

While I didn't find that short covers deal that you mentioned, I found another option that will work out nicely.

Re: 3+ weeks w/ the pre (vs sprint touch pro)
Well, at a little over a day into the Pre I'm pretty dissappointed. I have not loaded any music or photos onto the device, only apps. Today, downloading apps I hit the "app limit"...... What the heck is that?!?!?! I get a message saying I'm out of memory... so much for having 8 gigs of space on the device....
Although my Touch Pro was not reliable hardware wise (failing keyboard issue) I just keep running into things that I can't do on the Pre and it's frustrating me into wanting the Pro back. Most of the time, I'm excited and can't put down a new phone. Within 24 hours of the Pre, I wanted to throw it. I don't want to sound negative or bash on the Pre, so don't take it that way. I think that FOR ME, WinMo was a better solution. Granted, no tweaks have been done to the phone at all.... In an out of the box comparison, I have to say the Touch Pro was much much much more useful.... Still giving it a go, but the outlook is not great. I may go back to the TP. I went from and Instinct to the TP which was a huge upgrade... TP to the Pre which right now I feel was a major downgrade.. A few things that stand out right now: Contacts: Being able to jump to a letter via the side bar (touch "P" on the screen to go to names starting with P on screen not using the keyboard) RSS Reader non existant Syncing with Outlook out of the box (which is where all my contacts are, granted I have got around that by uploading to google) The today screen ( appts, time, weather etc.. all at one glance) Touch Flo, I really do miss it right now. Taking Video Although WinMo didn't do everything great, you really can do ANYTHING. ** oh and to add to the frustration, Palm Profile did not work as a contact backup. I reset the device today after running into the memory issue for the apps thinking that would solve it. Restarted phone, signed into the Palm Profile and let it load everything. And POW!!! No contacts....... I had to export my Outlook to Google and then sync... Still can't understand why the Palm Profile did not back up contacts.................. Re: 3+ weeks w/ the pre (vs sprint touch pro)
you have to do the tweaks with webos quick installer. there are a lot of tweaks that will make the phone awesome. You can do themes now too.
In my opinion the pre's ui is much better than touchflo. Then again I got real tired of touchflo since I have had it on my touch, and diamond. |

Re: 3+ weeks w/ the pre (vs sprint touch pro)
The apps limit will be going away once the 1.2 update comes out on Thursday. Almost all of your other "issues" can be resolved via homebrew apps or are just different from WinMo. For me the Pre just works, I had nothing but problems with the Mogul and Touch Pro. It needs a few key apps still but it's coming along.
I still don't see why so many people care about taking video with a cell phone. I used the feature all of once on my Touch Pro and just to try it. There was never any practical reason to use it. If I want to take video I have a nice digital video camera. |

The app limit thing is only for those apps you try to download via the App Catalog (and as Machinehead stated, that should be resolved this week). There are no limits downloading via Preware or WebOS QuickInstall. late, Coz

cell video is cool to have to shoot stuff that "just happens" and put it on youtube basically, I don't think anyone meant it as a replacement for a good 3chip digital or anything like that. From what I've heard, the pre falls apart a lot (casing) and I don't see how it's any better than a pro/diamond. My 6.5 calc rom has been nothing short of very stable and I don't see where webos has anything more to offer. It's just a matter of preference at this point. |
