Re: Verizon i910 Kitchen Ready

This might be a stupid question. But everytime I drop the OS.nb to the Buildrom.cmd, I get a BuildOS.exe application error that application failed to initialize. Is this where I'm suppose to drop the OS.nb?

Nevermind, it works now. I decided to download the file again and it's working now. Back to cooking!

I'm using the same program, posted earlier in this thread with a tutorial. All I need to do is take the oem from this program and put it in the oem folder and then create the rom?

you are the Man Adrynalyne. Just used your kitchen to make a new ROM with a few other things added that I always use. MUCH smaller file now. ;)

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchen Ready

I'm kind of like Adrynalyne, in that I don't want to use a kitchen from his already clean rom, like he did not want to continue to use a kitchen based off of Wozzers Rom. When he said it is a pride thing, I fully understood, and I am having that feeling right now. I wish I had more time though.

Thanks Adryn for making this available.

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchen Ready

I have both kitchens in my comp. I will still tinker around with the original kitchen to see what happens. It's just nice to know I have a great kitchen with an already stripped down OEM to make something. In fact when I make a ROM from his I probably won't change his .gifs or anything (might just alter the splash screen to v1.3.1 or something)

Adrynalyne 05-13-2009 10:00 AM

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchen Ready

I don't mind you guys using my kitchen, in fact I encourage you to download both and play with them, it will speed the learning curve up.

I do ask that if you redistribute your roms that you:

1. Reset the version numbering to your own.
2. Remove the splash screen I put in place and replace it with your own, or the default. This will save me the trouble of people requesting me to fix someone else's rom :p
3. Not a requirement, just a request. A small "based upon" blurb is always appreciated.

Much thank for the thread!! I am interested in cooking some rom's buy I cant find Sykar...? am i correct in understanding that if i wanted to mod a bin already made that I would use that program? I want to try that before I fully start cooking.....

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchen Ready

Generally speaking, you can't recook someone else's rom.

understood... i meant more along the lines of tinkering with the rom, as you mentioned as a way of speeding up the learing curve. I've been looking for extractrom_bin...? am I clueless? I downloaded package creator and dont see it so I assume its in another program...

edit: how do I make .gifs? I like your atom one, but want to change it to something more personalized.

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchens Ready

so far so good, with so many questions already asked and answered it makes it fairly smooth... let me ask this. a lot of folks are looking for specific programs that some may have left out of a particular rom. how would I go about taking those and making them into cabs for quick install. For example several people (me included) have been looking for the FM radio. How would that cab be made? It seems easier to make a cab for small things like that rather then to cook a whole new rom identical to an existing one just to add one program.... I would be glad to make these cabs for the I910 as my small contribution to the cooking effort...

Okay, got the newest GIMP on my laptop, now to just figure out how to edit the .gif I want lol.

Yeah it takes a bit to get used to!! I say do a few frames to get the feel for it then you can redo your slash screen!!!

ratvader 05-13-2009 02:03 PM

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchens Ready

I gave that a shot a few days ago and no go. I decided to try again just to see and still nothing. i dont know if something critical to its operation got erased but the cab just creates a message that says its not certified so it wont install....

bgill55 05-13-2009 02:17 PM

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchens Ready

wait what .cab???

I can't figure out how to make more frames, nor how to animate them. I made a new PNG file for the welcomehead splash screen..

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchens Ready

i downloaded fm radio.rar and extracted it. then i tried to install fm radio .cab. it installs but when you soft reset and try to use it give a message that says "the file FMradio cannot be opened. either it is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of its componets cannot be found. if the problem persists try reinstalling or resotring this file"....i was wondering if the problem was that this came from the 1900 and the 910 but then i found this thread and decided to work the folks cooking and see what common wisdom dictates...

phantomguy1 05-13-2009 02:57 PM

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchens Ready

there should be a class for this... because Im totally confused as to where to start. I used wozzers bin file..... dropped it in to the extract file and then I dont know where it goes.... the dump folder disappears.... PM me please

Adrynalyne 05-13-2009 02:58 PM

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchens Ready

re: FM Radio

Common wisdom dictates you leave it in.

I don't know of any i910 cooks who have been able to get it working after removing it from the rom.

Even Wozzer is putting it back in due to difficulties.

Adrynalyne 05-13-2009 02:59 PM

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchens Ready

You should really talk to Wozzer before extracting his work. He might not be too happy about it.

ratvader 05-13-2009 03:01 PM

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchens Ready

i am actually using wozzers rom so that is good to hear. I am going to continue to work on cooking for myself though... i GREATLY appreceate what you folks are doing... it is the ONLY thing that makes these phones usable=D>

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchens Ready

I thought I had the OEM thing figured out but it turns out I don't. I am using the OEM app (OEM Package Creator v5.4) posted in this thread with the tutorial. I followed the tutorial with kevtris to make sure I knew what I was doing. The tutorial has a cab and an OEM for kevtris. So I followed the tutorial and made an OEM for kevtris. I put the OEM I created in the OEM folder and proceeded to build the ROM. Kevtris was not listed as a selectable option. I then added the OEM from the tutorial page to the OEM folder and when I went to build the rom it was there as a selectable option. So I compared the OEM folders and there are a few differences, the OEM I created has a Program Files folder, a registry file (.reg), and a dll file. The other has a bunch of files and a kevtris folder. many of the files in the Program Files folder of my OEM are in the main folder of the tutorial OEM. Can someone help ](*,).

It's better if it is 400X400. That way if you start your device in landscape mode then the image will be correct. If not then it will tile. As far as I know that will be your only issue.

Omega Ra 05-13-2009 09:21 PM

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchens Ready

Okay, well I put the 240x400 one in already, but I can remake it 400x400 and substitute it later.
