A little chef tip:

You can find out what files are install for a lot of programs by examining initflashes.dat in the oemlang directory. Open it with notepad.

Hello? what do I do next??? I run the stupid program and extract the .cab to a file, but when I try to close MSCEINFEN it errors and it doesn't continue to make the package...I did it once but can't figure out what I did.

Not great, but not bad. What I expected for the time invested.

that's it I give up for tonight. I can't figure out how to do the package thing. I am trying to make packages before I start messing with anything else, and I can't even get that...

Omega Ra 05-11-2009 11:25 PM

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchen Ready

Oy....took one last shot and figures it out...I just let it extract to the folder it wanted to extract to and it worked. I was trying to tell it to extract to a folder I made in my Omnia folder...

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchen Ready

Okay now that I have gotten out of retardville...what are all the _dat and file folders in the kitchen for? do I have to go through that to remove references to things such as Shozu?

Also, I do not have that .dat file in my OEM lang file...

Adrynalyne 05-11-2009 11:36 PM

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchen Ready

Show hidden files and folders and show protected operating system files. Then you will see it.

the _files and _dat folders are for syakr. Ignore them.

Don't break your back with this stuff. Read up and take it slow. It takes some time to get your head around it.

Anyone have a link to the stock Beta Rom? The kitchen is not working for me, and I deleted my copy :-(

okay I see the .dat file now...too tired to figure out what I am even looking at lol. What about the .mui files and such in the lang file...

probably a good idea. I just need to start making packages out of .cabs so I have stuff to install. As for removing references to the stuff I remove...I might just print out that file and look at it that way..it will be easier and then I can go through it after highlighting what I want to remove.

On another note, how do I change the registry files, for example making 3.5 the default framework...

EDIT: nevermind on that print out idea...107 pages...lol

man there is alot of junk to nuke half way there!!! Smart Reader is not fun at all!!!!!

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchen Ready

I shrank the font size and took off the word wrap...only 33 pages now...changing the font shouldn't effect anything right?

Registry files are the .rgu files. Open them with notepad. They are scattered EVERYWHERE.

As for 3.5 default--the OEM I included handles that for you.

will it work fine if using vista 64? or should i vm it?

Adrynalyne 05-12-2009 12:52 AM

I assume it works.

cg83 05-12-2009 01:14 AM

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchen Ready

so let me get this right for removing:

i opened up sztupy's automated rombot

removed Dice(just for an example)

then i have to search for its registry files, but in where?

as far as ading packages, i have to download first, and just use that file bgill suppiled us with?

Adrynalyne 05-12-2009 01:17 AM

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchen Ready

Or find OEM packages already made.

Registry entries are in rgu files. Not all apps have reg entries.

rgu files are located where tho?

Very Scattered uggh!!!! well i think mine is done!! I might release it, might not!! But its pretty stripped down not as much as Adryn's but i kept what i used and got rid of the rest!! I have a lot of free space!!!! super fast!!!

Omega Ra 05-12-2009 09:42 AM

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchen Ready

okay, so I will have to remove references to the programs I remove from the .dat file AND any .rgu files as well?

Adrynalyne 05-12-2009 10:09 AM

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchen Ready

Be careful with the initflashes. I typically don't remove stuff from that.

Omega Ra 05-12-2009 10:11 AM

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchen Ready

Oh okay, cause in that step by step it mentions looking for references in that an removing them. So I should just look for the .rgu files throughout the OEM and SYS files?

Adrynalyne 05-12-2009 10:12 AM

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchen Ready

Yeah.

Omega Ra 05-12-2009 10:16 AM

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchen Ready

okay. So how do you get yours so small then? your .bin is like 81000k or so and the ones I have made so far are 121000k or so...of course I leave in smart reader...

Adrynalyne 05-12-2009 10:28 AM

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchen Ready

I removed a lot of stuff ;)

A LOT of stuff.

Then I optimized it via Syakr.

Smart Reader is like a 8mb program.

Omega Ra 05-12-2009 10:35 AM

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchen Ready

okay so smart reader is a big program. What is that optimize thing? I was wondering about that.

Adrynalyne 05-12-2009 11:11 AM

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchen Ready

In Syakr. It tries to compress the executables, to make them smaller.

Omega Ra 05-12-2009 11:14 AM

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchen Ready

okay so in sykar I just click what I want to remove/install/configure and in the optimize tab I just click what I haven't removed to make the .exe's smaller if possible. I notice in sykar that there really isn't THAT much stuff on the remove tab...

Adrynalyne 05-12-2009 11:19 AM

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchen Ready

You can choose the option to optimize all in oemapps if you feel lucky ;)

Some tips: You can free a lot of space by removing non-english files.

WWE (world wide english) files have 0409 in them. Always keep those.

Omega Ra 05-12-2009 11:20 AM

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchen Ready

okay, I'll try to figure that stuff out later. Sadly am at work and can't work on it right now unless I break out the laptop and tether to download the kitchen as right now the kitchen is on my desktop at home.

EDIT: Oh and do I remove all these rgu files and such before or after doing the buildROM?

Adrynalyne 05-12-2009 11:22 AM

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchen Ready

Expect to make some duds that dont boot or have broken functions when doing a deep cleaning of the rom. Its part of the learning process. You can always flash back to what does work.

faustus 05-12-2009 11:23 AM

Re: Verizon i910 Kitchen Ready

This is exciting, great work Adrynalyne! When I first got my omnia I was worried about the lack of ROMS and kitchens especially considering all the options available for the titan. Well we are finally there! Now I have to learn a new kitchen. :)
Thanks!

Cooking should be a team sport. With there only being three guys doing it, and closet cookers who don't post, I just had to get more people involved. Fresh ideas from fresh minds.

do I remove the .rgu files and such before or after doing the buildROM? I assume before....
