LMAO.....when they finished 6.1 they rarely sent out updates, well i guess you right to carrier device specific releases.....but if you count all 6.1 SYS that are final releases....there's o lets say around a hundred

Not actual updates for 6.1...updates to specific apps on 6.1 but not the OS itself. Those 100 updates your refering too are updates to carrier specific apps.

Besides, if they updated any part of the SYS in 6.1, all carriers would make it available for download as M$ would consider it an important update for the well being of 6.1. I have seen no such update for sprint....yet. I know they released a new rom for the verizons, but that was most likely an update they needed for carrier specific purposes.

So theres no official latest release for the os its self?

i agree with whosdaman in a lot of points, WinMo may be the center of attention here but sadly the truth is that its prolly the most hated OS out there for smartphones as out of the box its practically too slow, unstable, and buggy to be useable. Luckily we have places like ppcgeeks and xda for making it run better but sadly the vast majority of consumers arent forum surfers so nobody can rely on forums to do M$'s work for them.

M$ has to take it back to the drawing board and make something entirely new and innovative just to stay afloat because there is no way they can survive in the mobile OS game with a patched up WindowsCE from 2002 core. Apple, Android, and WebOS seems to have the most attention in the game leaving WinMo out of the equation till they do something quick, HTC may help with touchflo3d-2, menus, album etc. but it isnt enough cuz it adds to the fact that to make WinMo appealing you have to hide every single element of the OS instead of HTC making it a even more enjoyable experience than it already is like they did with "Sense" and the Hero where the modifications is hacked into Android due to it being open sourse thust part of the OS blending perfectly and HTC taking a good thing and making it kicka$$ rather than trying their best just to get by...

WM7 has to be good and i trust it is because frankly its sad that we have to go to third parties just to get a decent interface, web browser, contact manager, media player etc. WM does have those rite? but the sad fact is that they are mediocre so we cant stay with what M$ gave us

Sorry to say but Apple, Palm, and Google has M$ beat in almost every way and for those that refuse to face the truth, compare a BARE BONES windows mobile OS (no opera, TF3D, Mobile Shell, etc.) and compare it to Android 1.5, WebOS, and Mobile OSX stock..... nobody can argue about updates cuz WM was there long before these and update regularly, but looks like they slacked off too much

SIDE NOTE: one thing i have been wondering... M$ is promoting their Marketplace (app store for WinMo) but what i ask myself, is what will happen to all those apps when WM7 hits when it comes to compatibility??? Its gonna be a overhaul so i guess they have to start from scratch rite??

No. All the builds you see like 21808 etc, are beta builds. Not actual releases. All the 6.5 roms you see are all beta releases. The next official release is 6.5 and I'm not sure when that will actually be released.

Mike20pr, i get your point. But without WinMO, The others would have had nothing to base thier platform on.

Android and Palm you can customize to a certain extent or leave it be if you must. Apple, is not customizable at all. You can use WinMo stock, but your right, it's a drag, But the fact is, you can totally customize the interface to your liking even if you have to use 3rd party apps.

Have you read what google is proposing to generate revenue for thier so called open OS? Adds!! Yeah, you turn on your phone to be greated with adds!! Update an app, adds!! that is something I don't think i'll venture into.

I will agree that M$ needs to come up with something innovative for win7. Otherwise I do feel it will start to trickle to just a few phones OS's. But nonetheless, it won't be wiped out. M$ will always be around whether we like it or not. Just hopefully they can make it more efficient and user/eyecandy friendly.

thanx for the reply, i still voted "yes" becaue frankly i know it will survive but its sad to see it drag so much knowing it has the ability and potential to be the number 1 contender... all eyes on WM7 hehe

With some of these leaked concept images floating around. It's looking like windows 7 will be groundbreaking. The Zune HD will be a good starting point to see where they are heading. The Zune will be intergrated with windows mobile 7. So we are definitely in for a treat. Just you all wait and see
