Awesome 6.5 Upgrade News?!?!?

http://www.wmexperts.com/microsoft-g...es-upgrades-65

seriously? it can happen for our diamond/TP devices?? real official 6.5 upgrades??

Quote:
Upgrading to Windows Mobile 6.5: We know of a few phones that will be upgradable from 6.1 to 6.5, and Microsoft is clarifying this position a little. Mainly in that if they meet a minimum hardware standard — 128MB RAM, 400 MHz processor — they may be available for an upgrade. But that's will up to the partners (read: Manufacturers/carriers) to choose to do so.

Loads more pics of all this after the break. Check back early and often this week as we'll have lots more news coming out of CTIA.

No they are saying that if phones meet them requirements, it can be upgraded, but its up to the manufacturers.

But yes you need that Windows Button.

Exactly, im sure there is a work around for that stupid windows button being needed.

I'm thinking about running the beta version, do you need to unlock your phone and run a custom Rom?

I think its more of a standardization thing. They want phones that run the OS to have certain capabilities to "improve" the user experience. I believe Android does the same thing. But I wouldn't worry because the lack of certain buttons won't prevent PPCGeeks like us from getting 6.5 anyway!

Re: Awesome 6.5 Upgrade News?!?!?

The way I look at it, as long as it is capable of running on a Touch Pro or some such, I can't imagine it won't get at least an unofficial port. I can understand wanting to keep some semblance of cross-device standards. It will probably help with better user experiences among non-PPC-geeks. Still I would imagine it would be little trouble to map that Win key to the home key or some other keystroke/combo.

I read that yesterday. I think its only fair. Glad to see that HTC whats to make it happen. Crazy thing is, you would think they would hold off on the Diamond 2 & Touch Pro 2 until Windows 7 is released. Screw 6.5. They would make more money that way.

Re: Awesome 6.5 Upgrade News?!?!?

they have bigger plans beyond the diamond2 and pro2... i believe windows mobile 7 will run off the NVIDIA Tegra 650 chipset and that will be WICKED!

A leaked and tweaked version is fine for now, and as soon as there is an official 6.5 release, we'll have some of our masterminds port and tweak it... it'll be LIGHTYEARS better than any official release from microsoft and HTC.

I ran the beta on my Vogue last night and it is SWEEEEET. had to take it off tho, cuz Bluetooth PAN wasn't working in Internet Sharing and thats my deal breaker.
