Re: Prices Skyrocketing As Early as Next Year?????

I could see our monthly rates going up anywhere from $8-$11 a year which is less than a $1/month. Its kinda like those "charges" and "fees" you see on your bill... then if u think of all the carriers in the country besides (att, t-mo, sprint, and vzw) like metropcs, cricket, and all of the other smaller carriers in the u.s that offer service, the fees shouldnt be anything to worry about

Thank you. Taxes always suck to pay but (not to get too political) as long as we have wars, schools, roads, bridges, cops, agencies, etc. to pay for, there will be taxes. A lot of this tax money is going to infrastructure improvements that will benefit the country as a whole when they spur development of better information and energy infrastructure. Sucks but it's true. Some things can only be done collectively with any success and the way we do that is by everyone sharing the cost.

When I get annoyed with my taxes, I try to remember that paying them is like paying dues to be a member of a great country club. Someone has to pay for that pool and that waitstaff and those groundskeepers, etc. If everyone had to individually pay for these things, the cost would be much greater.

500 million for each carrier per year. On sprint, figure they have 50 million subscribers. So thats about $10/year per person. A little less on ATT/VZW because they have more subscribers to spread it across. I dont see where you get $75-100 hike...youre talking, as said earlier, maybe $1/month.

Thank you Obama. I wonder why he didn't include this fee (tax) as part of his "stimulus package" and have Privet Reserve print it out of thin air to cover this amount.

Oh yeah, it really is not about giving, just taking.

Stay tuned, for the next episode of the Obama show, from the people who brought you The Bush Administration.

I love this attitude. When republicans waste half a trillion dollars on a war to nowhere, and don't even include it in their budget, that's all good.

When a democrat is honest about the world of crap we are in and how we have to pay for it, then "it really is not about giving, just taking. "

Time to grow up.

(uh wait, this isn't the politics room)

Anyway, back to the real discussion.... anyone want to guess how much money the average american pays in Gasoline Tax per year? Anyone at all? That's an OLD TAX, it must be ok.

I stand by my analysis. It looks to me to be a dollar a month tacked on. If its too much, cancel your cell phone.

Your state has a public service board that governs the cost of utilities to keep them in line with the cost of living, as does mine. Some states do a better job than others of doing that, but none of them currently regulate cell service. To increase their cost of service, a public utility must petition these entities, etc... cell providers currently do not have to do this.

Gasoline is not a utility and is not governed by these entities.

I'll be shocked if it is that low. I would also not be surprised that as other carriers go away, the government raises the fee even higher to 'replace' the lost revenue. Maybe I'm wrong with the year cost per subscriber, since it was based on an estimate of 30 providers, nationwide, at $500 million each, divided by 200 Million users nation wide.

My thing is that my wife and I are already paying something like 14-15% of our monthly bill as fees and taxes. That seems like a lot to me as it is now.

More like 251 million users nationwide and growing. I like the country club analogy.
