Like everyone on here, I am all in favor of having a larger screen but there are plenty of other things that HTC is avoiding by releasing this phone. It seems that HTC is more worried about pushing out the latest/greatest phone and is not putting any quality back into existing products.
I'm not even sure it's latest/greatest- From a somewhat lay perspective, full phone screens aren't that unheard of- I've gotten some comments on mine being 'small'. and since there is no new hardware, and the phones described have similar batteries I'm guessing the TP2's size increase is due to it's hinge?

I'm not going to be sticking with the TP line when it comes time to upgrade my phone, it looks like.. though that's a good time away, htc*might* redeem themselves with the next set of devices. or the next

I'm half tempted to suggest an internet-boycott campaign for these devices. I looked alot into the TP before i bought it-found reviews that were pretty positive, etc. Got it, found xda with their mammoth 'tp performance' thread, and it's only got worse. These phones are also getting a good bit of mostly positive press hype, what i've seen. Should try to point out that preformance will be the same or worse, battery life, etc. Try to get htc to update their hardware.

Of course, an internet protest may have all the effect of a fart in a paper bag. It'd be nice to persuade people to go with the older phones, or to keep their current ones though.

Since the Apache, yes.

But then again, they're kinda forced to do that to keep any interest at all in their phones, since MS isn't providing any positive marketing buzz, and they're competing with three phones (android, with themselves noless!) that are getting *all* the buzz)

I'd crank out new versions every 6 months too if I were them.

Re: Diamond2 and Touch Pro2 announced by HTC

schettj, if they wanted a buzz-worthy phone then upgrade the dang specs, not just a dimond/pro series rehash with a bigger screen. people are not going to be impressed with this past the first glance eye candy of the big screen. Especially the "geek" online community which is probably theyre biggest buyers.

Samsung stepped up their game with the Omnia HD, hell the Omnia outperformed our current HTC series by a mile especially video performance, and their HD will tak 720p video and offer 1080p playback with HDMI out support! Thats a multimedia smartphone. The iphone, no matter how much we here or myself hates it and Apple, will be stepping up their game this summer with a rumored muli-tasking phone with lots of good enhancements. Toshiba has the snapdragon phone. People are stepping it up this year and HTC is trying to pull this rehash crap with tired old specs for 2009. Why even spend money on these new HTC's when there's better coming out. Thats a first for HTC too, usually they are out first with the biggest and baddest and theyre going to be trailing the pack with these specs on the Diamond/Pro 2

If the video problems with qualcomm persist its going to be a huge issue. Theres no reason this doesnt have a 1ghz Tegra with full 3d support which will be all but standard on smartphones this year- theyre already out in at least one unit from Toshiba.

This phone will likely suffer the same exact video performance issues considering its using identical hardware to what we have now. Unacceptable, and I will not be buying one of these new HTCs. I still have my Sprint TP and picked up an ATT Bold and lemme tell you that 624mhz RIM used FLYS and has flawless video playback.

HTC wont be getting anther dime from me until they step it up and fix the hardware issues and step up their specs, not just a rehash. Same with Microsoft and 6.5, small visual enhacements and a rehash of 6.1, jsut like 6.1 wat to 6.

What's gonna be the price? You know they are gonna jack it up because of the screen. I'll keep my TP until the stats rock.

Theres no excsuse for the same exact specs as our current series and ask for another $600 for antoher .8" of screen
Exactly my point. And what pisses me off even more is that some ppl will buy this crap for 600 dollar just to get th .8 bigger screen size! Honestly I care less for the screen size since it will make the phone bigger So i am fully happy with the Pro as of right now. Dont get me wrong. I do want a bigegr screen but they should have managed to keep the size of the phone somewhat as big as the current hand set.

Re: Diamond2 and Touch Pro2 announced by HTC

We pretty much have gone downhill ever since the6800. The 6700 had better multimedia performance that all of the newer HTC phones. What a shame!

Re: Diamond2 and Touch Pro2 announced by HTC

luckily i just went GSM so i have the choice of all these other manufacturers nice smartphones like Samsung and LG and Toshiba- companies stepping up their game for 09. i feel bad for people solely on CDMA, especially Sprint who really only offers HTC devices for WM. They have no other options then buy these "new" products.

Re: Diamond2 and Touch Pro2 announced by HTC

I am siding with the crowd waiting for the TP3 (or whatever they end up calling it). Upgrading from the Mogul to the TP was an ordeal that took several weeks of research/convincing for my stubborn self to make the leap. Imagine the struggle I'd have going from the TP to TP2! *furrowed brow + sleepless nights x 2*

Anyways... I think it is only appropriate that we help HTC in anyway we can, so I suggest we get them in touch with the guys who are designing this fuel cell:

Because lithium ion batteries got nothing when it comes to HTC. NOTHIN!!
