Re: HTC bringing VGA displays to sprint: Raphnel and Diamond

My assumption is that the new processor's die-shrink is being taken into account with the new battery life. A smaller processor improves power usage, oftentimes to extreme levels. Granted, the new processor is also a little faster, but still, it should run on less energy than the old one. But a VGA screen should draw more power, arguably, due to the extra processing required to handle it.

My guess is with general improvements they've managed to get this phone to have life similar to what the stock batteries for the Mogul do. Which, from experience, was dreadful, and why I had to get the 3200mAh battery. So odds are it'll be the same scenario here, where we'll all need to upgrade as soon as Seidio finishes the battery.

Re: HTC bringing VGA displays to sprint: Raphnel and Diamond

I actually wished the Raphael would have more face buttons on the top like the Mogul.... I use them a lot whenever I want to play games in landscape mode. If the Raphael has a (ipod like) jog wheel rather than a tilt button like the Mogul, that will make it really hard for any games. I really hope they keep both cameras and had a flash or have really nice lens with high ISO..they need to add to the Moguls camera features and not take anything away....just improve on the quality and video definitely...esp if we are having tv-out. You would really almost think tv-out would be on the 4Gig rather than the version without.

I know! These people don't understand that we are practically LOCKED INTO a 2 year contract... If you are going to spend time manufacturing a phone, give it more than today's standards!
But I am not complaining. 128 is more than enough for WM6.1. If I had that much RAM, i would have 68-76MB free. Can anyone say PAGEPOOL UPGRADE!! lol

Re: HTC bringing VGA displays to sprint: Raphnel and Diamond

More RAM (as opposed to Flash) draws significantly more power to keep it refreshed. Unlike desktop or even laptop PCs, where space for the battery isn't at such a premium as it is for handhelds, you want just as much RAM as you're likely to need and no more on a phone. RAM you won't use just wastes battery life.

For Windows Mobile 6.1, 128MB seems to be that balance point.

How does the iPhone get away with 4-8 gigs of memory and
better life than the SPrint/Verizon phones.

Well, can an iPhone do nearly as much processing as a WM based phone? Not really. The iPhone is built on a completely different platform. It was intended to be closed to development, and that is why the battery is so efficient for the phone.

The iPhone doesn't have 4-8 gigs of RAM. That 4-8 gigs is flash memory (like an internal SD card).

Re: HTC bringing VGA displays to sprint: Raphnel and Diamond

Guys, the spec sheet on HTC's site states the Diamond will have 192MB of RAM. It seems reasonable to conclude this will carry over to the Raphael as well.

http://www.htc.com/www/product.aspx?id=46286

The 4GB internal storage does not carry over because the Raph has a mSD slot, the Diamond does not.

I don't know about the IPhone but my Touch supports up to 16gb of memory, and more once the 32gb cards come out. Plus the Iphone is GSM and NOT 3G. These waste alot less energy than CDMA with EVDO.

Apple even said themselves the reason the IPhone didn't have 3G was because of battery life.
