I'm curious to see how this all plays out. We keep hearing of WM 6.5 update this year. Now we are hearing that a WM 7 Beta will be out this year as well. I find it hard to believe they would release WM 6.5 and then come right back out with a beta for WM 7.

How long will it be from the time to they release WM 6.5 till you see official updates from the carriers? Too long. 6.1 has been out for how long now? I was waiting for an update for my XV6900 for ever and then got rid of it for the Omnia.

This is all gut feeling and nothing real but I suspect 6.5 will be out by mid summer (it may take longer for carriers to release their roms but we will have outs quickly), with the 7 beta late in the year giving us a few months with beta before an official.

I still say no WM 7 devices will be out until first or second quarter of 2010. At least the possibility of a WM 7 beta in 09 might happen.

I agree with you about actual devices being released with WM7 on them. But I bet it'll be available to us in one form or another before the end of the year. Or at least I hope so.

WinMO 6.5 is unacceptable at this point. An incremental upgrade will not put MS back in the spotlight with regards to mobile OSes. MS needs to put their best foot forward now, get WinMo 7 to carriers by mid-2009 and on shelves by 3Q. WinMo 6.5 will hardly grab anyone's attention no matter what it includes. If it looks anything like those "leaked" images that came out a year ago then that is already a giant leap forward, but if so then it should be considered WinMo 7. No one is forcing them to do a 6.5 which implies add-ons and fixes more than evolution. Sometimes I wonder if anyone at MS even uses a smartphone.

2009 would allow the greatest opportunity to showcase WinMo 7 in devices that can handle it. HTC Whitestone with Tegra, WiMax, built-in 8-16 GB, and WinMo 7 would sell as well as the first iteration of the iPhone. People will spend $400-500. That has been proven. MS just needs to get out more to see the proof, and quickly.
