Re: Anyone on here know much about LCD's?

i think that there is a lot of bad droids out there i had to return mine about 5 times for varies reasons. Most related to back battory cover and one for the space inbetween the touch screen and the fram puling facial hair out of my face.

Re: Anyone on here know much about LCD's?

I also had a black dot on the screen of my first Droid! When I went to buy my Droid, the default background was dark grey so i didn't notice it but after i went home to play with some of the features, I changed the wallpaper to a white one and noticed that there was a very small black dot towards the upper part of the screen. At first I thought that it was dirt or something so I tried to wipe it off with a cloth but it wouldn't come off.

I went to the Verizon store the next day to see if the workers could get the dot off. They were very careless with my phone and rubbed their shirts on it, rubbed it on the counter, used an antibacterial wipe and swiped it around the screen but it wouldn't come off. The next thing that I am asked is if the dot is a "big deal" to me and if it was worth me having it exchanged. I told them that yes, it was a big deal since I paid $200+ for a brand new phone and I didn't want a defect. Then they exchanged my phone for another new Droid and I haven't had any problems ever since .

I love this phone, but it goes right along with Motorola's shotty engineering just like every other device they have made in the past. I think that if it weren't for Google having a hand in it, this thing would be a complete piece of poo.

Motorola is not historically known for shotty engineering. The Bag Phone, the DynaTac (aka The Brick), The MicroTAC series (aka the Tank), The StarTAC series, The Original RAZR (#2 selling phone in history), the Military Grade iDen phones like the i580..

Motorola has made some of the most robust phones in history. You'll be hard pressed to find a more durable phone than the i580.

Your case is more an example of the refurbished arena being subpar. When you replace your phone through warranty they just hand you someone else's troubles. You need to make a stink and get a brand new phone.

EDIT: You probably have the same phone that jrodizzkool01 replaced.

Haha. Yeah, probably was the same one. I have an i580 Nextel and it is a good phone. Kinda primitive, but yes, a good sturdy phone. Actually, I bought one for every one of my employees and none of them have broken after a year now. Other than the i580, I haven't had much luck out of Motorola phones personally. This is the last straw for me. If this Droid sucks, I am not going to accept another "Certified Like New". It will be up to them to either lose my business or simply send me a new phone. I have been with Verizon from the start. Replacing my phone with a new one is the least they should do. I am paying over $2K/yr for 2 lines with data.

Re: Anyone on here know much about LCD's?

Its either a dead pixel, like the others said, or dirt layered between the LCD and the glass Digitizer. I have had good luck with the droids, my first was good, it did have a little sloppy of the slider, however I dropped it 2 feet out of my pocket and cracked the glass... My new one (insurance 89 bucks!) also seems like a winner, but this time I have a sedio hard case and ghost armor on the glass. treat it like a jewl, not used to having glass screens, just plastic ones like the omnias and tp2s

Got my 4th Droid today. It seems to be a good one. Time will tell I guess.

Re: Anyone on here know much about LCD's?

I'm still in the camp of Motorola/Verizon sending out returned phones for warranty replacements that have not been thoroughly examined. Unless an issue is immediately duplicable, it won't be repaired. A technician is only going to put a phone on his bench for so long before he kicks it out as "no fault found."

In the event of a burnt pixel, I would imagine that it would be like any lcd warranty. One burnt pixel does not mean they'll replace the LCD. So I imagine that phone will go back into the fray again and some other user with a droid issue will get that as his replacement device.

Yeah. That definitely seems to be the case. In fact, I'd be surprised if they even checked them at all. The 2nd one I had didn't even look refurbished at all. It looked like they just stuck a used one in a box and sent it to me. They always tell me that if they don't find any warranty issues, they're gonna charge me full retail for the replacement. They haven't actually done that yet though. I'd like to see them try. LOL
