Advanced Task Killer

Even with the larger screens, both of those devices sport lower resolution than the Moto Droid (around 2000 pixels) and neither has been announced in the American Market place.

As far as a task manager, I use Advanced Task Killer. Like you, I also never find the Droid to run slowly and I usually have many apps open. It's just times when I have a lot of data-intensive apps open (google maps, weather, browser, youtube, email, market) that are downloading things at the same time.

Re: Thinking about getting the droid

Android is designed much in the same way that Linux is, once an app is minimized it's not using very much in the way of resources, and if the phone gets to the point where it need more RAM it will end processes to allocate the necessary RAM to the current task. If there is an issue with an app taking up RAM and or hogging the CPU then it is a problem with the app. If I find apps like that I always uninstall them. Banden is right about the TG01 and HD2 not having been announced in North America yet, but I was also mainly referring to Android devices as well

BTW, Astro File Manager has a pretty nice built in task manager if you want a 2 in 1 solution.

I remember way back in the early days of Pocket PC development (now WM) that this was supposed to be the behavior of apps written for that OS. Sort of. Instead of the OS ending processes in order to free up RAM, the OS sends a message to everyone that memory is getting low and the apps are supposed to garbage collect and even exit if RAM is still needed.

Too bad those guidelines were abandoned by developers in the PPC and WM world.

Say...did I just say that Android and Android apps work the way WM and WM apps are SUPPOSED to? Nah...
