Re: Thinking about getting the droid

kI meant different apps not the same one. Like is there a limit? could you buy say 6 different apps in a month and do that? Also where could I view all marketplace apps? can you? I mean without being on the droid.

Re: Thinking about getting the droid

You can buy and return 500 apps per day if you wanted to, but only once for each app . Go to http://www.androlib.com/topofday.aspx to view a complete list of apps with descriptions and users comments and ratings. I check their "Top of the Day" section a few times a day just keep track of all the new up and coming apps .

Re: Thinking about getting the droid

thanks so much for responding so fast. this droid just keeps getting better it sounds.

too bad theres no swype though. I have swype now on my touch pro two and I love using it with my stylus. its actually fun for me.

im kinda not sure what to do since I really want a 4" minimum screen for like a this is the one I really want type of thing. among other features of course. and im not sure what to do with the droid since I hear it has some issues and I would love it if it were update to android 2.5 and 3.0. i guess I have cold feet kind of thing.

Re: Thinking about getting the droid

I dont think you'll be seeing any 4 inch screens for a little while, the HTC Dragon/Passion/Bravo was rumored to have a 4.3 inch screen initially, but everyone is now saying it will have the 3.7 inch screen . What are the issues you've heard about with the Droid?

Re: Thinking about getting the droid

the issues I have heard of is lag in the ui and i've seen lag in some you tube videos and at the verizon store I looked at it early this week before I posted here. sliding the thing on the home screen at the bottom upwards was kind of jerky. sliding the home screen left and right to the other two screens was a tiny bit jerky too. sliding the top notification bar thing down was kinda jerky too. same for the browser and marketplace. but very little in marketplace. theres the verizon sheet with a list of issues they are going to try to address in an update. and then the audio and video shortcomings.

so im kinda nervous.

Re: Thinking about getting the droid

I think a lot of the issues people are having is getting used to the new capacitive style screen too. I know it took some getting used to for me coming from all the WM resistive screens I was used to. I had the same issues before when trying to use the iPhones screen. You have to use different speeds between taps and your finger must completely leave the screens surface between taps because even the slightest contact with the screen registers a touch or swipe. The only place I really notice some lag is when dropping the notification menu, and I think thats more in the coding than it is a processor lag issue. Another thing that takes some getting used to is the screen calibration. On WM you used the screen calibration setting to kind of personalize the screen to react to where you liked to touch. Most (if not all) capacitive screen devices sont use a personal calibration setting, it's already calibrated from the factory and you just have to adapt and get used to where it wants you to touch. As far as the audio and video limitations there's unfortunately very little we can do about that until some develops an app that plays those things. WM wouldnt play them either until someone created Core Player and TCPMP, and I suspect that eventually we'll see a player like that for Android. Until then we'll be taking the extra step of converting everything on our PCs before adding them to the phone. Obviously those things werent deal breakers for lots of us, but if those are the big issues for you, you might be better off with a different phone

Re: Thinking about getting the droid

They're not deal breakers for me either.

My ipod touch was my first such device and I love how easy it is to type on its keyboard and stuff. I sometimes goof up on my touch pro 2 onscreen keyboard, but it's not bad at all.

I wonder if Verizon would let me pay $200 cash for the Droid full retail price and put the rest on my next phone bill. I know one time a long time ago they would when I asked about this sort of thing for something, but don't have a clue now as to the cost or difference. So if they allowed me to do this then I probably would buy it and probably love it like the rest of you.

any thoughts/ideas?

Oh yeah. Would it be way hard to learn how to code/program/develope for Android? Might give me something to do since I don't work or anything now.

Re: Thinking about getting the droid

As far as lag on the Droid, it is mostly caused to a bunch of programs being run in the background. I also thought that the phone seemed laggy in video reviews and on the verizon store until I tested it out myself. I used the task manager to end all of the running apps (there were 20 something running in the background!) and everything was immediately responsive. Most people don't realize that the Droid does not have an 'X' button and whenever you exit out of an app or program, all it does is minimize it. After ewatching one review of the phone, the reviewer showed the task manager app and had a bunch of programs open yet complained that it was slow! I can run around 8-10 apps and still have the phone quick and responsive but when I start doing more, it becomes gradually slower. This same thing was true of the WM6.5 I had on my touch pro. Once I started closing apps, it became responsive as well.

I find comments like these interesting. I have yet to find a time when my Droid slows down no matter how many apps I have open. Do you find this to happen with specific apps or are you saying all apps after a certain point?

By task manager do you mean the running services app in settings?

Re: Thinking about getting the droid

Is there a close app button for droid instead of only minimize then go to a task manager like app to actually close it?

The jerkiness for me was even when I did close all tasks and even powered off and on the phone too. There was teeny bit of jerky.
