Just use the latest stock ROM, Gps is working fine in it. No need to run custom roms or unlock the phone if all you want is GPS.

Re: Connecting HTC Touch (Sprint) to Freedom 2000 Keychain GPS
Dette,
I appreciate any assistance you can give to me. My ROM version is 3.03.651.4 and my Radio Version is 3.42.30. As you've already read, this all started just because I wanted to get my GPS (Tom Tom) back after a Sprint Tech convinced me to upgrade my ROM in an effort to make my Sprint TV work. I upgraded--but Sprint TV still doesn't work. I'll see about fixing that later. Thanks to the coaching of Primenall, I've made progress but am still having some problems. I've managed to unlock my ROM using CoKe 2.3.1 (or something close to that), then I upgraded ROMs using the one OMJ posted that's specifically for the Sprint Touch. I know that's worked because there are some obvious changes in my phone's appearance and features. I've done quite a bit of searching on this site, other sites and google to try to figure out what I'm doing. As it stands right now, I am able to use the phone and most of the features but I'm having some issues--here are my problems: 1. After all of this, I still don't know if my GPS is unlocked. I can't find anything in settings or programs that tells me anything about my GPS. The closest thing I can find is the "External GPS" in the Settings. Before I start playing with the settings in my TomTom 6 software, I'd like to know if the GSP is actually working. Does that make sense? 2. This is a relatively small issue but if there's a way to get the stock HTC Today Screen launcher back, that'd be great--just because I'm a creature of habbit and have grown used to that one. That's small though, if necessary I can find another program to install that will work just as well. 3. I had a filesys.exe error (or something close to that); however, that error seems to have gone away after a few reboots. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. LOL Like I said ealier, I have done a good amount of reading on this stuff in the last few days. Right now, I honestly think most of my frustration is simply because I'm not high enough (as far as my knowledge goes) to understand some of what's posted. This is a whole new language with a lot more accronyms and abbreviations that I just don't quite comprehend yet. Those two appear to be my only problems right now but if more pop up, I'll post them in hopes that you--and the others--will help me. Thanks again, KCHruby |

Re: Connecting HTC Touch (Sprint) to Freedom 2000 Keychain GPS
Since Dette is trying to help you, K you should just flash to his diamond 2d, I think 2.3 is vi latest, I used one of his before (thanks D) and worked great, I looked and the "sprint" rom you flashed to was kinda old without a lot of stuff. This one should have your htc launcher, plus it has the htc Manilla2d a launcher you'll like it, but can pick either)
So try Dettes http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=34284 And then use the Sprint Carrier Cab after rom flash, for sprint cust. it will be a ".cab" file just transfer it to your phone with active sync and then navigate to it with "file explorer"on your phone and tap it to run it. The link in Dettes rom thread didn't work so here's another http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...sprint+carrier As for tom tom, when you start tom tom, the TT won't activate the GPS chip itself, you need a primer, I use astrolauncher, here is the .cab file just DL it to your computer transfer to phone then open it using file explorer on your phone. There will now be a T.T.launcher listed in your Programs, use this from now on to open T.T. and use the launcher wherever you would select tom tom, like to put shortcut on start menu. I'll try to remember the settings for TT....go to showgps staus then configure select "other NMEA GPS receiver" select baud rate 4800 select COM4 TT should fire right up, check your "gps status" and you should see the sats with blue signal bars Last edited by Primenall; 01-03-2009 at 10:19 PM. |

Re: Connecting HTC Touch (Sprint) to Freedom 2000 Keychain GPS
Primenall,
Again, thanks for your assistance. So it looks like I've got three things to do. 1. Flash Dette's Rom (I'm assuming it will just replace the OMJ one that I flashed). You mentioned that OMJ's ROM had a lot of stuff (which it did) so to get rid of that stuff do I have to first flash back to the OEM Sprint/HTC upgrade or can I just go straight from OMJ to Dette's? 2. After I'm up and running with Dette's ROM, then install the Sprint Carrier Cab--I like cab files--those are easy. LOL 3. Finally, after Sprint Carrier, I can install the Astro GPS Cab--again, I like cabs. The Dette ROM thread that you linked me to is a pretty long thread so I'm going to spend some time reading that just to make sure I get his most current version. Keep your fingers crossed. The good news is I've learned a lot about my phone these last few days. Thanks again, KCHruby |

Re: Connecting HTC Touch (Sprint) to Freedom 2000 Keychain GPS
Primenall,
I found an ftp page from Dette that shows a few different choices. the link is here: ftp://ppcgeeks.com/Vogue/Users/Dette/ Now my next question is this. You mentioned that I'd like Manilla 2d but you also mentioned that after I flash Dette's ROM, I'll need to flash the Sprint cab. So, with that in mind, which of the ROM's on Dette's ftp page do you recommend? I was thinking the 2D v2.3 Diamond Edition that he uploaded at 8:53 am on 11/03/2008 but that one doesn't appear to have Manilla--at least it's not mentioned in the title. It would appear to me my other option is the one that specifically says Manilla; however, that's also specific to Sprint so if I used that one, would I still need to install the Sprint Carrier cab you mentioned earlier. The ROM I'm referring to is: Dette's Diamond Manilla 2d ROM V 1.0-sprint.exe that he uploaded at 3:29 am on 10/08/2008. I've narrowed it down to those two. Am I on the right path and which do you suggest? Thanks, KCHruby |

Re: Connecting HTC Touch (Sprint) to Freedom 2000 Keychain GPS
Primenall,
This decision might have just become even easier. I'm having trouble downloading one of the two files. "Dette's Diamond Manilla 2d ROM V 1.0-sprint.exe that he uploaded at 3:29 am on 10/08/2008" only gets to about 90-some percent downloaded then comes up with an error. Looks like the non-manila, non-sprint ROM will be the one I use but I'm still reading more of the thread to make sure I know what I'm doing. KCHruby |

Re: Connecting HTC Touch (Sprint) to Freedom 2000 Keychain GPS
Thanks Primenall for suggesting my ROM I can trouble shoot better if you are using it and I have had VERY few people tell me GPS does not work.
Ok KCHruby v2.3 Diamond Edition is the latest ROM release which is a universal ROM which means you have to install the Sprint carrier cab because it doesnt not have any carrier settings so internet and all services tied to it such as GPS, MMS, Email, Browsing ect.. will not work v2.3 has Manila 2D which is basically a 2D version of Manila 3D or TouchFlo 3D from the HTC Touch Pro/HTC Touch Diamond Its very nice to use. If you do not want to have Manila 2D grab my v2.0 Clean ROM which is older but is still good to use if you want HTC Home Plugin without extras, this ROM does NOT require a carrier cab because it is carrier specific so you just have to download the Sprint version and flash it. I recommend v2.3 Diamond just because it is newer but either one works just fine so it is up to you. v2.3 comes with Google Maps and Live Search for GPS but you can install any other GPS software you want. DO NOT RUN Live Search if you want the YouTube player to work.. There is a bug where live search stops it from working. Once you have flashed let me know how GPS is working. If it is not working after all these flashes I would think maybe something is wrong with your internet service or your phones hardware |
