Official HTC Touch ROM?

Hi I am looking into getting the HTC touch/xv6900 from verizon and I see they don't have a rom out for Windows Mobile 6.1. I am wondering if this one found in this thread:

Will work for a Verizon HTC Touch without any other modifications?

Problem with that is I have to do all this:

You MUST be:
- Unlocked with the 2.31 unlocker,
- Upgraded your RADIO to 3.42.xx by flashing
RUU_Vogue_BM_WWE_3.09.666.1_Radio3.42.50_Ship.exe

I was under the assumption that the official htc firmware update was simply install and your done.

Honestly i believe i read somewhere that htc does not have a offical release vogue rom...So regarless of what you use your gonna have to unlock and then maybe pick a good custom and flsh the clean version...Make sure its released for your carrier!

Thats the one I was looking at. I see it says for Sprint but I wasn't sure.

So the only way I will be able to get Windows Mobile 6.1 is one of the roms on this forum? Along with unlocking it and everything? I just am knew to this stuff so I don't know how safe I would feel doing it.

I am knew to this, is there a thread on here that will work me through the process of installing the rom you posted above? Also where to get the files and how to install the unlocker and radio thing?

Unfortunately for Verizon users, there is no Official 6.1 upgrade....so the only way to upgrade is unlock & flash a custom....another bad thing is, there is no Official 6.0 Verizon roms to flash back to if you have to flash back to stock.....if you unlock & upgrade to 6.1, you are stuck until a new Official Verizon rom is released.

don't get me wrong there are lots of Verizon users that are running custom roms & are happy, just beware of the downside.

I am a little confused.

Do I first do this:

EDIT: Thanks for explaining it. I understand its permanent. Its worth it to me to have the 6.1 features like threaded sms/mms. The only thing I am worried about is the rom being slow and making the phone unusable for a quick text or something.

Like when I am in the car or something I like to be able to text something really quick and don't want to have a huge amount of lag or w.e.

2. choose an official rom to flash to upgrade your radio (either Sprint or Bell). I have a link to both on my thread. I prefer the Bell radio over the SPrint, though I am a Sprint user. ***NOTE** when you flash the official rom, be sure to soft reset after calibrating the screen & setting time zone etc, b4 the carrier customization runs!!!***

3. *optional* flash the custom rom of your choice. I say it's optional cuz you could stay on the offical rom, but you'd be better off flashing a custom.

So basically there is nothing that I basically need to do myself? There both actual programs that do the work for me?

So basically all I do is plug my cell in and let the two programs do there job (more or less)
