Just how tough IS the Sprint Touch?

Hey all, I just recently had an interesting experience to share with everyone. Monday evening I was at work and I was playing with my phone (like every other night ) and as I went to put it back into the holster, it slipped out of my hand and fell approximately 15-18 feet onto a hard cement floor.

!@)&*!!!!, I thought to myself. I looked down and saw that the back cover had popped off and the battery fell out as well, so it was laying in 3 pieces on the floor. I expected the worst as I went down to pick it up, but the screen was still intact (no cracks at all), so I put it back together, turned it on, and voila! It still worked! I was thoroughly impressed to say the least. I thought for sure having fell that far and landing on a hard surface it would be broken, but it appears as if no damage has been done at all, save for a small scuff on the corner of the casing where it must have landed.

Has anyone else had any close calls or thought they had destroyed their HTC Touch? I wonder how much this thing can really take before throwing in the towel.

Re: Just how tough IS the Sprint Touch?

glad to hear the touch is as tough as the mogul.. I've dropped my mogul more times than I care to remember, from all heights (rooftops) and onto all surfaces (concrete, rocks, ect.) if I had a better camera, I'd take some pictures to show off the battle wounds.. but needless to say it looks like a gunmetal and black cheetah..

He was probably up a telephone pole with a butt set listening to his girlfriend's phone conversations...

I haven't done anything bad to my Touch yet, but here is a link to what I did to my Mogul, which survived. And there are other good horror stories to read in the thread too...

lol i can drop my htc touch on carpet and it will fall into 3 parts like you described...other than it seeming to explode into 3 parts after droppping it, the unit is very sturdy..wish the battery back stayed on tighter though...

LOL no I don't have to climb a ladder to get service. I work in a Frito Lay manufacturing plant and there are many platforms, levels and overhangs throughout the plant, and I happened to be on one when I dropped my phone. The floor is treated concrete, but still, pretty damn hard.

I'm glad to hear the Touch is a sturdy unit. I opted for the Total Protection Plan just to be safe though. Thought for sure I was going to have to use it Monday night.

Re: Just how tough IS the Sprint Touch?

Pretty much the same thing with me, whenever I drop it it just breaks into 3 pieces, blah even in my pocket the battery cover comes off sometimes, it's annoying.

But besides that, no damage whatsoever.

Re: Just how tough IS the Sprint Touch?

Im glad your story came out with a happy ending... heres my story...

I was walking down the stairs in my office building and I went to go take out my phone. As I am getting my phone from my pocket, I tripped on the stair and I reached out for the hand rail. Unfortunately, my phone was halfway out of my pocket and as I trying not to fall, I saw my phone hop down the stairs from step to step.

I was at the top of the stairs and it fell down(14 concrete steps), slamed into the wall on the other side of the landing and laid there in the classic three pieces. Sure enough, the LCD was cracked, spidering from the lower right hand corner out to the rest of the screen. It still operated, as I received a text message after I turned it on, but was not able to view the message. I must also note that the touch function still worked... just the glass in the LCD screen cracked.

Fortunately, at that time, I have only had the phone for two weeks. I waited for the battery to fully die and told verizon that it just stopped working on me. They gave me a new with no questions asked.

I now have a silicone cover and a screen protector on the new one, so hopefully it will protect againstany future falls. After a month
