It seems reasonable to conclude that there are software components (device drivers and such - separate from Windows Mobile OS) that are more current in the Bell OEM ROM as compared to the Sprint OEM ROM.

just curious.. are there any Sprint users who flashed Bell updated ROM,
and getting better GPS results?

I thought that the only reason for GPS improvement in recent Bell ROM
is due to the new PDE IP server (the one referred to by EnablePDEIPFromNV setting and used for AGPS),
but apparently it is not the case,
there's something else?

interesting. that's what the new sprint rom had added as well, which has seemed to make a difference on my xv6900. thanks.

I'm afraid that I have confused the issue with speculation. You may very well be right in identifying the additional registry setting.

As far as the drivers go, I am not in a position to say one way or the other, if the different OEMDrivers in the 3.08 ROM are any better than the earlier 3.0x releases. I can say they are different, because I have done a file-to-file binary comparison. I have no idea what the differences mean.

Apologies for confusing the issue.

Best regards,
-boggsie

I wonder if those entries make much difference? I still get great GPS signal and some others who're on Bell that reflashed to a custom rom still got great signal so I'm wondering what those changes do.

Anyone knows what does GPSMODE do and what difference is 4 suppose to have over the 2 and vice versa?

How about that extra line, EnablePDEIPFromNV, what does this do?

I'm curious to know.

I'm w/ Sprint, flashed the official Bell, now running my custom Bell based rom. GPS definitely seems better, locks faster, and more consistent.

The Bell OS seems faster too.

This is cut from 1 of the .rgu files from within the new rom

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\SUPL AGPS]
"EnableAGPS"=dword:00000001 ; 0isable AGPS
"GPSMode"=dword:00000002 ; 1:GPS_FIX_MODE_MSA, 2:GPS_FIX_MODE_MSB, 3:GPS_FIX_MODE_MSS
"NumberFixes"=dword:3B9AC9FF ; 999999999
"TimeBetweenFixes"=dword:00000001 ; 1
"QoSAccuracy"=dword:00000032 ; 50
"QosPerformance"=dword:00000059 ; 89
"ServerIP"="195.207.101.126" ; Set QCT AGPS Server IP as default
"ServerPort"=dword:00001E6C ; Set QCT AGPS Server port as default
"EnableGPSSmartMode"=dword:00000001 ; Enable GPS smart mode

I'm doing some testing with my phone as well and from what I can see, it does need data access to get quick locks. Having data off and blocked by "no data" will cause oncourse to never get a lock on sats. I can see it but it'll never get a lock.

I find that if I have data off but not blocked by "no data", oncourse dials onto the data connection and eventually gets locks.

I find that once you`ve already had locks to sats (ie not from cold start), even if you have data off and blocked by "no data" it will lock on to sats. The sats may already be in cache or something.

Bell's is GODBODY.
I am a bell user though, dont' know if that matters
