Oncourse Navigator 8 - new iGO 8 for NA

Hey guys,

I don't know how many of you know about the new iGO 8 with updated north american maps. It's no longer called iGO but oncourse. It still pretty much has the same UI except the splash screen doesn't have the 8 but has a new splash screen that says oncourse.

The old 2007 maps from iGO 8 work on it as well as the new maps from this works on the old iGO 8. This pretty much means it's the same program, just a higher build and a different splash screen.

If any of you've tried it, have you gotten TTS voices to work on it? I tried the susan TTS voice and it doesn't work. Maybe I'm not copying the right files or missing something. I'm still fiddling with oncourse to see if there are other differences from iGO, but seems to be the same. I guess good thing is now we got updated NA maps.

I'm going to test to see if terrain, 3d buildings, and poi works on this for canada, since it hasn't worked before.

I installed this on my Touch and it is working with the TTS voices. Not a bad app, but atleast for FL most of the 3d stuff like terrain, 3d buildings etc do not appear and no pre-populated POI's.

are you using the new maps? the poi seems to work on it.

you'll have to edit your sys.txt so that it runs on the device and reads the maps on storage card

So I got the latest maps and got the FL POI's to work, though not as extensive as Garmin and TomTom. Unfortunately, when in 3d or 2d mode, still no buildings show. For the most part I don't really see anything great using the 3d mode over the 2d mode using this app here in FL where I live.

Off topic, anyone get TTS working on Garmen or TomTom?

Do you have the .3dl and .3db in the building folder under contents? Are they they new ones that came with the new maps?

I think they should work from what I hear from other people. I live in canada so I only have a .3dl file and no .3db file but it still shows 3d landmarks.

There really isnt anything great with having 3d buildings (probably mostly because I haven't seen many 3d landmarks in my city but 3d mode is nice since it follows you as you drive and shows you a 3d view of the road as you would kind of see it. I kind of like this better than the topographical 2d view.
