Then run googlemaps go Menu > Options > GPS settings and click on "set manually" and in the drop down box select the com port that you chose above. There's also a way for you to allow Windows to automatically select it, but why do that when you already know that it's COM4. Then hit Menu > Use GPS and on the upper right corner it should give you the status of locking in sats and how many are active. |

Re: Free GPS program
Google sometimes locks in a few minutes, sometimes a LOT of minutes. I recommend the free program: gpstoday http://www.geoterrestrial.com/
I started using it today, and it locks very quick, and is better than google maps. I don't think it even uses data from the net. |

Re: Free GPS program
Just remember, If U use the GPS with tha radio off, It is harder to get a lock because U loose the assistance from the cell towers. I just tried it today to confirm this. I cannot get a lock indoors with the radio off. I could easily get a lock wherever with the radio on. Once I'm outside with radio off I get a lock in a few seconds and started navigating. works pretty well. It may be ur location. The GPS chip inside our phone is not as sensitive as the ones with the navigation system. U may want to look on that issue as well.
