Touch Hot While Plugged In To Car Charger

Hi all,

I just bought a car charger from the following link:

http://www.daydeal.com/product.php?p...15156&cat=3078

Plugged it in for the first time yesterday, and it seemed to make my phone unusually hot...definitely hotter than when it's plugged into the wall outlet or into my pc. Is this normal? Could I be damaging the phone by using it?

TIA.

Re: Touch Hot While Plugged In To Car Charger

does the charger you received actually look like the one in the picture? or is it just a generic looking black case? if so its prolly an after marker charger.. Also.. it is summer.. and maybe it just feels that way because the sun is hitting it and it is almost all black? may wanna try running your ac and keeping it hidden from the sun and see if its any diffrent..

Thanks...yes, the one I got looks just like the one in the picture, with the HTC logo on it and everything. Should I be concerned that they sent me a model that's incompatible with the Touch? Also, I was using it at night, so it definitely wasn't getting hot from the sun.

i would say that if it isnt compatible with the phone then you are prolly getting alot more current flowing to the battery than it should have... and if you remember those fun dell batteries that overheated... well you know boom and soforth burned laps fun fun

=D> Ya think?

I had to Laugh when I saw the Topic of this thread. Dont worry about it, I've had plenty of PDA that have done the same thing. Personally I dont like using the car charger unless necessary. Its not a quality charge, like you get from your home ac adapter.

Re: Touch Hot While Plugged In To Car Charger

Last I checked, 5 volts was 5 volts. Whether it was converted from 120vac or 12vdc.

You do have a valid point however when dealing with shady quality equipment. Some knock off adapters have a hard time holding onto a voltage and will fluctuate from 4-6 volts etc...this can cause problems when charging your products. Pay the extra 10$ and invest in a decent adaptor. Don't skimp off of paying 10$ more just to risk your 300$ phone.

Regarding current, too much is the same as just right. The phone will only suck up what it can use. Plugging in the phone that requires 5v 600ma into a 5v 600ma source will behave exactly the same as plugging in the phone into a 5v 30amp source.

You run into heating problems when you plug in a 5v 1amp device into say a 5v 600ma source.

You'll brown out the power source and create more resistance in the circuit which will give you more heat.

WARM to the touch is normal, hot to the touch is not. Of course we all have varying degrees of what hot is. If it's hot like uncomfortable to hold then you definitely have a problem. Check the rating of the adapter you are using. I use a 5v 2a charger. It was the one they sold at the sprint store. No problems of overheating unless it somehow found it's way under my pillow while sleeping ( I highly recommend you do not sleep on your touch ) lol a li-ion fire on your pillow is not a great start to a beautiful morning.

Thank you. Again, here is the link to the charger I bought:

http://www.daydeal.com/product.php?p...15156&cat=3078

It seems to be made by HTC, so it doesn't look like a cheap, no-name charger. Seem ok to you?
