You do have a valid point however when dealing with shady quality equipment. Some knock off adapters have a hard time holding onto a voltage and will fluctuate from 4-6 volts etc...this can cause problems when charging your products. Pay the extra 10$ and invest in a decent adaptor. Don't skimp off of paying 10$ more just to risk your 300$ phone.
Regarding current, too much is the same as just right. The phone will only suck up what it can use. Plugging in the phone that requires 5v 600ma into a 5v 600ma source will behave exactly the same as plugging in the phone into a 5v 30amp source.
You run into heating problems when you plug in a 5v 1amp device into say a 5v 600ma source.
You'll brown out the power source and create more resistance in the circuit which will give you more heat.
WARM to the touch is normal, hot to the touch is not. Of course we all have varying degrees of what hot is. If it's hot like uncomfortable to hold then you definitely have a problem. Check the rating of the adapter you are using. I use a 5v 2a charger. It was the one they sold at the sprint store. No problems of overheating unless it somehow found it's way under my pillow while sleeping ( I highly recommend you do not sleep on your touch ) lol a li-ion fire on your pillow is not a great start to a beautiful morning.
