I searched through my registry and didn't find anything significant. I actually looked in my notes and saw several people saying not to use settings that I have! You might want to ask OMJ, DHarvey, or negamann what reg changes they made because I've teathered with each of their ROM's.

But I don't think the problem is your device. It sounds like you're getting connected but you're PC browser is not liking the connection. Just for kicks, check your Internet Options/Connections on your PC and see if there is a new dialup connection there for your Touch.

I'd try connecting with another PC if you can. If Activesync starts, just CANCEL and run as a GUEST. Then do the same steps. I bet you'll be online.

that's a good idea, to try it on another machine. will do... and if it still doesn't work, we know it's something I'm not doing or the phone's settings.

Re: xv6900 tethered modem help please ! !! !

Magicality, thanks for the info. I tried this on the leaked Verizon ROM 3.14.605.1 and it worked great! Though my download speed was faster before the updated ROM, its not bad. Results of test posted at end.

Suggest rewrite of VX6900 tether connection:
Dial ##778
Select edit, enter 000000
View Info -> M.IP Default Profile
Change DUN NAI to yournumber@vzw3g.com
View Info -> Security
Change S.IP DUN User name to same as above (yournumber@vzw3g.com)

Menu->OK-> Let it soft reset

CHANGE TO READ:
Now you can use the option above...Select Programs->Modem Link and select MENU and START. Make an ActiveSync connection and click connect on the phone.

Use Verizon Access Manger and connect to NATIONALBROADBAND and on upper icons, select "WEB".

DOWNLOAD SPEED RESULTS:
DOWNLOAD SPEED UPLOAD SPEED LATENCY
1267 202 502 (Verizon VX6900 Orignal ROM)

Average of 5 tests with MR1 (Verizon Updated ROM, the leaked ROM!)
537.6 357.8 381.2

***GPS NOW WORKS*** And its fast! Tried it in AIRPORT mode and works!
I usually get a startup in 15 seconds and track 6-8 sats indoors!

I used the Vallhalla Legends GPSServer.cab, HTC QuickGPS. (Verizon vx6900 leaked ROM).

Re: xv6900 tethered modem help please ! !! !

does anyone else find this incredibly confusing and vague? nobody had a true step by step, it's spread over 3 posts and each one covers items that are assumed by many and not spelled out.

for example:

do you need to switch back settings each time you connect and go betweenthe phone and modem on the PC?
what needs set up on the phone vs. the pc?

can someone write this up for a techie who doesn't want to be a phone guru?

I should add the ##778 nor the ##778# works anymore, so fail at step 1

Re: xv6900 tethered modem help please ! !! !

I've been working on this for a few hours and I'm getting a different problem. I enabled wireless connection in active sync, started internet sharing on my Verizon 6900, but the PC doesn't load the drivers for "generic serial". Do I need to load the vzw access manager drivers so the PC will recognize the modem?

A lot of the dialers with custom ROMs don't handle the ## codes. You can try a different dialer or....

Create or modify a shortcut for \Windows\EPST.EXE.
Modify the shortcut (EPST.LNK) properties by adding ##778 to the Target.
That should get you past Step 1.

Did you disable the "allow USB connections" in ActiveStink/WMDC before connecting your cable? I think Internet Sharing is supposed to disable it automatically when you start it but it has never worked that way for me.

Re: xv6900 tethered modem help please ! !! !

I've tried everything I can think of, and it's still not giving me a connection. I have the HTC modem driver on my pc now, and when I start ICS the phone gets a connection, but the connection on the PC side never obtains an IP address. Eventually I get an "The remote party has ended this connection" error. That makes me thinkg I need to adjust some DUN setttings or something. My head hurts :P

Update: all fixed, not exactly sure what I did, but uninstalling the modem drivers and fooling around with ICS seemed to have worked. Didn't change any DUN or other data connection settings. Thanks again for all the info.
