My XV6900 is using Radio 3.42.30 with a WM6.1 GPS 3.02 ROM. When I connect the usb cable to the laptop, it makes a great connection, but the browser will only open to the default VZ Access Manager page, advising you to contact them and sign-up for the $15/month access plan. I've gotta believe someone will figure out a workaround and share it. Until then, I'm forced to activate the old battleaxe XV6700 via the VZW website whenever I need to tether, then start Wmodem so I can get online without wires.

It's such a rip that I am paying extra every month for the "unlimited data" plan, but now Verizon excludes data via tethering. There oughta be a law...

So, if anyone knows a hack or trick to get past the VZ Access Manager screen while tethering with an XV6900, do tell!

With my XV6900, I haven't yet heard of a rom/radio combination that will allow me to tether again. If anyone figures this one out, please post!

try renaming "rilphone.dll" to "rilphone.dll1" in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing]
"Extension"="rilphone.dll"

Thumbs up Re: xv6900 tethered modem help please ! !! !

I followed the instructing posted here to get tethering to work on my xv6900 phone. And, it is working like a charm. I will check my Verizon bill to verify that I'm not getting charged for this service.

I agree 100% that this should NOT be an additional charge since I am paying for the UNLIMITTED DATA CONNECTION already!

I am a newbie to PPCGeeks... but I am so impressed with everyone's knowledge out here that I'm already addicted!! I spend a lot of time reading and LEARNING from you guys! THANKS!! =D>

it is an additional $15 a month along with the data plan/bundle, but when it comes to trying to bypass verizon's tethering fees, everyone must be careful as your wireless bill with them will get bigger without paying the extra $15, and i was told by some of the customers and a fellow mod that they'll catch tethering even if you're trying to bypass the tethering fees. i tried it 4 years ago and got my last bill right after my contract with them expired as of February of 2004 with an xv6600, and my temper rose to a fever pitch as soon as i saw the amount of my last VZW invoice which was $397.82, and that was with a good discount i was getting as well.

I was able to get an internet connection using the Wmodem. Thanks for the tip! I'm assuming the phone# to dial is #777?

Using this method, Verizon won't bill me for tethering?

Both ##778 and ##778# connected me to the Verizon "your call cannot be completed as dialed".

Works fine when I disable USB in WMDC (Vista) and use ICS on my Touch.

Re: xv6900 tethered modem help please ! !! !

I never got the tethering to work even though I followed the instructions above. Is there anything I need to do to my computer internet before connecting my phone via activesync?
