HELP! My storage card suddenly is empty!

Ok - so I am at my son's baseball game and everything is working fine. I get home and now everything on my storage card is gone. All my files and cab files and pictures and music. What happened???? I didn't touch anything or drop it.

Please, is there a way to get this information back? it has a file on there that says:

EncFiltLog.menc.

I have never seen this before. I have a sandisk 6gb card and have never had any issues before.

Please help!

Apparently, the EncFiltLog.menc is an encryption thing. I did a quick google search and found a LOT of people having similar issues. I will say that its a somewhat known issue that the Vogue can have problems with memory cards. I always keep a backup of my entire memory card on my PC in case something happens. I would try and put it in your PC to see if you can get the files that way...BUT, I am sorry to say.....I am pretty sure the files are gone.

There are several threads on this site and xdadevelopers on Touch SD card problems. You may be able to recover the files, but chances are slim. Sorry to report with bad news, but I've suffered this twice. I have found some solutions, and posted here- http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=12148 Try a google search on Touch/Vogue memory card problems/issues and you'll be surprised what come up.

Well, I have been reading many articles related to the newly found file I mentioned earlier. It appears that suddenly all my files have been encrypted and locked up. I still have found no solution to recapturing this data however it is still there as the card capacity is the same as before the problem.

I can't believe that one of the many brilliant minds on this forum have not figured a way to access this.

I have seen many others with the same issue. All my pictures of my kids are gone - my mp3s are gone - and I can't access any email. Unbelievable!!!!

Are you using one of JD's Roms?

Looks like this might have been an issue in some of JD's older ROMS. In this thread: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...=25070&page=97

post # 962 says "Nah, he's talking about encryption on the storage card. It often leads to corrupted storage cards which means you lose everything you had on there. JD has it removed in his roms, if I recall correctly."

I would get ahold of JD and see if he might be able to advise you. If not, see if you can find SOME setting to disable the encryption. From what I can tell, this happens when encryption is enabled on the SDCard, then is disabled. If you had put this card in another device that had encryptio enabled, that might have been the cause.

Did some looking. I feel your pain, and hope this will help. Gonna try it myself when/if it happens again. It's a SanDisk file recovery utility, free to try kind of program but if it works once, your data can be backed up for the off chance this happens again.

Its in a exe. can you put in a cab.? and then what do you do with it run it then what ? Thanks T M Z

It's a PC utility. You'd have to have the card in a card reader.

ironically i was at a Tiger's baseball game and the same exact thing happened to me also. I just re-installed everything, which blew, even tho I used spb backup to re-install, but didn't work. I had to do it all 1-by-1 and now my card is half full because it has doubles of everything basically?

Wait doubles?? were u able to recover your lost data or did u just recopy what you had on top of the other stuff.. Just remember that since the card already has bad sectors it may be prone to fail again, you might want to do a data recovery or just copy the card exactly how it is to your desktop and format it. It it doesnt take a format you might not want to continue using it or may even want to trade it in if under warranty. Allot of these cards have one year warranties and if you call the company many will send you a new one, no charge.
