Although you bagel analogy is nice, The argument is not whether or not you should have a data plan on your touch. The argument is that Jethro claims that you have to have a data plan in order to Navigate which is not true.

Read post 42 again.
and here
A-GPS utilizes data from a satellite reference network that is continually updated in the TCS XLP A-GPS Server. The TCS A-GPS Server sends this aiding data to the mobile over an Internet Protocol (IP) connection established by the mobile. The Aiding Data assists the GPS receiver in the mobile handset to determine where to acquire overhead satellites. This significantly increases the sensitivity of the device so it works effectively from inside a briefcase or pocket. The Time to First Fix of the device is quicker, helping keep battery consumption to a minimum. The combined features make TCS' A-GPS Server the most accurate and commercially viable option for mobile positioning.

I read from the beggining, thank you. Dont assume. If you havent checked please do. The Title of this thread is:

"Sprint - htc touch / no gps lock without cell phone service?"

so if you would like to talk about other devices then maybe you should post in the appropriate thread. You have sounded silly this whole time and have been wrong, and now youre trying to say you were actually talking about other phones and not the phone that this thread is ACTUALLY about?? WE ARE IN THE TOUCH FORUM. All of That is clear, and youre the one that looks like an idiot (sorry, but true)

Theres no quetion there. The statement is correct. Its states that "This significantly increases the sensitivity of the device so it works effectively from inside a briefcase or pocket" This isnt even relevent. This helps, yes, but is no where needed if you are navigating in your CAR, as most would. When was the last time you have been using your navigation while it was in your pocket or briefcase???

As all the threads in here, It went to a different direction. And pls no personal attacks. All my explanation about A-GPS is all accurate. I ask to do a little experiment on a certain devices to confirm if data transmission is needed.

IT IS NOT NECESSARY IF YOU ARE IN PLAIN SIGHT OF THE SATELLITES. What dont YOU understand. It assists you should you NEED it. IF you have clear sight of plenty of sattelites, and you allready have maps preloaded, then it will navigate you all over the place all you want very efficiently and effectively without the NEED of the Assisted server. So NO data transmission is Necessary AT ALL. NADA. ZILCH. YOU DONT NEED DATA TO NAVIGATE.

U do not understand at all. There are 4 types of A-GPS standalone, MS-implied,MS-assisted, Hybrid. There is only one of those 4 Is in each device. if u have standalone, Ur device is totally by it's own. The rest of the types needed assistance all the time. It means that if U are in a non coverage area. U cannot navigate.

If someone jumps of a bridge, would you jump too? Youre the one that took the thread into a different direction. FYI, this is called hijacking a thread, and it is frowned upon.
