The fact that the Sprint Q9c operates in standalone should be a sign of how Sprint plans to adopt aGPS systems in their Windows Mobile lineup (read here and here regarding possible updates for GPS for the Mogul and Touch). Interestingly, someone came up with a hack to enable the assistance servers for the Q9c to give all the benefits of a true aGPS system.

What the heck are you talking bout? First off, "possible updates?" The Mogul gps update has been official for quite a while so stop linking to useless crap on sprint enabling gps on WMexperts, i read it when it was new news 2 months ago. And stop linking to stupid stuff and acting arogant as hell like were all dumb and you know all, because Ive read it all too. The problem here is YOUR initial argument in this thread was gps NEEDS data to function (post #5 here)

and people called you out on it, and you insist and act like that never happened now and continuously saying read post so and so like a broken record. you are the only one who seems to have no clue what they are talking about as Ive just shown.

This is NOT helpful to the community and your just doing it a disservice posting all this confusing misinformation with a pompous arrogant attitude that only your opinion counts- because youre 90% posting wrong stuff.

Please do leave this thread because you keep saying the same thing over and over, which makes zero sense to your initial argument you NEED data to use gps. You are 100000000000000000000000% WRONG. We dont need you flaming and your total arrogance here- we all know the correct facts no matter how much you refer to post #x or y

Re: htc touch gps

Okay, I just got my statement and was charged 2.99 for spring navigation. I have the GPS Rom and am using Tomtom software. I just spent about an hour arguing to customer service that I had never used Spring navigation and only used a 3rd party software. They finally agreed to credit my account after a tech noticed that I had no Sprint application on my phone.

My question is, is the gps hack and using TomTom software utilizing Sprint's navigation data which is causing these charges? If so, I'm going to stop since I own plenty of gps units and don't really need to use it on my phone. Anybody know, thanks.

No, the two are not connected. You can freely use the on-board GPS without using Sprint's navigation service. For some reason they added it to your account, but you do not need it. Just make sure they actually remove the navigation plan from your account, and don't just give you a credit for one month. I've learned to never assume anything with Sprint customer service.

Re: htc touch gps

Man, I hope so. Customer service was giving me the hardest time saying that there was no possible way for them to charge me unless I some how activated it. And since I've downloaded TomTom, I have only used it a few times and so far I've been charged 2 times for 2.99 so I thought maybe the gps rev was setting it off. Customer service says the charges are not monthly charges but for everytime I use it. Pretty annoying...

Re: htc touch gps

i think Jethro is wrong, but i dont understand exactly what he's saying. If he saying you need a data plan or even to be connected to a phone network to use the gps he's wrong. ive confirmed this by installing pocket streets & trips ona friends phone it tracked him and where he was going, how fast he was going there where he'd been.

This is what i think he's saying; programs that tell you where to go and navigate you require a data connection which only makes sense to me if the program itself requires one. If the program is setup to interpret your gps position and using software tell you where to go without downloading extra information from its server then it makes no sense that our GPS would. It would require patching each program to do it and their are more navigation programs out there that are neccassarily popular that do work on the PPC using a gps signal.

If the 6900 has a GPS signal and the navigation software used takes your gps signal, the direction your headed, your planned destiation and route and doesnt mention that it needs an internet connection then why would it need to connect? Your pocket pc can store the entire route in its memory and its easily possible for the 6900 using the proper program to keep a trailing map that keeps updated where you are and at least 20 miles ahead of you displayed. Im about to try Navigon on a friends 6900.

I have a feeling im missing something. Is he saying that the phone's built in gps navigation software requires a connection? Ive never used or seen any built in navigation software but if so... dont use that pos software.

What does any of this have to do with GPS? Youre talking about Linear Power amplifiers for CDMA/AMPS cellular phones. Im missing youre point here?? or is this just a bad attempt at being sarcastic?
