Re: htc touch gps

i think Jethro is wrong, but i dont understand exactly what he's saying. If he saying you need a data plan or even to be connected to a phone network to use the gps he's wrong. ive confirmed this by installing pocket streets & trips ona friends phone it tracked him and where he was going, how fast he was going there where he'd been.

This is what i think he's saying; programs that tell you where to go and navigate you require a data connection which only makes sense to me if the program itself requires one. If the program is setup to interpret your gps position and using software tell you where to go without downloading extra information from its server then it makes no sense that our GPS would. It would require patching each program to do it and their are more navigation programs out there that are neccassarily popular that do work on the PPC using a gps signal.

If the 6900 has a GPS signal and the navigation software used takes your gps signal, the direction your headed, your planned destiation and route and doesnt mention that it needs an internet connection then why would it need to connect? Your pocket pc can store the entire route in its memory and its easily possible for the 6900 using the proper program to keep a trailing map that keeps updated where you are and at least 20 miles ahead of you displayed. Im about to try Navigon on a friends 6900.

I have a feeling im missing something. Is he saying that the phone's built in gps navigation software requires a connection? Ive never used or seen any built in navigation software but if so... dont use that pos software.
