Re: Unusually high battery drain+ leaked ROM

[quote=ScrapMaker;285079]I am having VERY SIGNIFICANT battery drain, and I believe it's related to a combination of things... all radio stuff.

3) GPS. Yesterday, I was at a car dealership, helping my friend look for a new car. I was bored at one moment in the office, so I turned on GPS. I never got a lock, so I turned it off. I was at 90% battery. About 30 minutes later, my phone gave me the low battery sound. I pulled my phone out of my pocket, and it was hot as hell. It was showing very critical battery level. I tried to send a text to my GF, but the phone turned off before I got a chance. Would not turn back on, at all. So in 30 minutes, I went from 90% to 0%... amazing. Also, I happened to have BT off at the time, since I was away from my hands-free in my car, and I am aware of the drain.

When I got in my car, the car-charger (iGo from RadioShack,) would not charge the phone. No light came on, nor would the phone activate. Only once I got home, and plugged it in my wall socket, did a charging light come on. Then I was able to turn it on, and send a text. I still couldn't make a phone call, because the phone portion kept turning itself off. (I guess these phones don't ACTUALLY run off the charger when you plug them in, but rather, run off the battery, that's being charged---poor design, I think.)

Then, with BT ON, and no attempt made to use GPS, my battery charged from 0%, to 90% in about 45 minutes, and by 1 hour, 30 minutes, I had a full battery. I was pretty impressed.

I think GPS uses so much power, at least when it encounters a problem... perhaps a stuck loop in a driver---that it ALMOST negates the charger. Some days, my phone takes 4-5 hours to charge... Others, like last night, only take 1-2 hours....

<<<>>>

THAT'S the other part I forgot...the phone was HOT after 45+ minutes of GPS use...and the partial charge may be correct, but mine can't keep up with the drain...

Radio 3.38.10, or 3.37.10?

At first, my 37.15 radio was very promising.... Bluetooth connected amazingly-well to my hands-free in my car, and GPS locked onto 5 satellites in under 20 seconds for my first cold-boot.

Several days later, BT still WORKS great, other than the enormous drain, but the radio is a bit finicky with staying in EV-DO, and GPS is not getting the same results.

My guess here is that the 3.37.15 radio is not ready for primetime, and neither are the GPS drivers.

I am running the leaked Sprint ROM that includes radio 3.37.15. Comes with the 3.02 kitchen. (I haven't made a custom ROM yet.)

Re: Unusually high battery drain+ leaked ROM

Running the leaked rom, and have the best battery performance yet!

The ONLY battery problem I've had, is that I noticed if I plug in to a computer via USB, or use a Motorola charger, the battery indicator will actually drop significantly over time.

At first I thought I was hallucinating as USB is USB, but have now seen that same problem several times.

Since then, I've used the wall charger exclusively, and the battery lasts longer than it ever has!

Funny, because that means that your phone is using more power, (than ever before.)

My phone has ALWAYS been able to charge just fine on the USB from my laptop, or cheapo Motorola chargers... Now it's out of the question.

Right now, I am running some tests using power-monitoring software. I am recording power usage in different scenarios. I will post asap.

Re: Unusually high battery drain+ leaked ROM

I am having VERY SIGNIFICANT battery drain, and I believe it's related to a combination of things... all radio stuff. 1) I find that with the new radios, 3.37.10 and now 3.37.15, that the phone tends to "linger" in 1X mode, instead of jumping right back onto EV-DO. Plus, when I'm stuck in a 1X area with no EV-DO signal, the battery can be dead in less than an hour. Sometimes I have to reset the phone for it to pull up the EV-DO signal I KNOW is there... sometimes if I'm driving around, I get a new tower, and it goes back to EV-DO. 2) Bluetooth seems to be using 10x the power as before... My battery life is cut by almost 75% when I leave it on, and discoverable now. 3) GPS. Yesterday, I was at a car dealership, helping my friend look for a new car. I was bored at one moment in the office, so I turned on GPS. I never got a lock, so I turned it off. I was at 90% battery. About 30 minutes later, my phone gave me the low battery sound. Also, I happened to have BT off at the time, since I was away from my hands-free in my car, and I am aware of the drain. 100% agree Scrap on both points. Im constantly in 1x on this radio and was normal and in EVDO on 3.35 (the titan radio). Also like i said my battery went down almost 10% an hour over 8 hours yesterday, when it normally for the last 6 months between the OEM radio and titan went down 20% so i knew something was up.

i agree i think its both the radio itself flopping between 1x and the gps drivers not shutting off. i had no problems with JD's gpstest 2.1 and the titan radio so thats what im going back to. Sure standby gps works better here but not worth the 1x and battery issues. this ROM/radio isnt ready for primse time by any means

Re: Unusually high battery drain+ leaked ROM

I had the same issue on the battery drain when I first installed the Sprint leaked ROM. Since then though it seems that my battery level has improved. For example I have had the phone off the charger since 9:00am this morning and it is now 4:00pm here, and I still have 80% battery life. That is with S2U2 running, texting pretty much all day, screen is dimmed to the 2nd lowest setting using spb mobile shell 2.1. So I dont know if it is just problems with the Altell based rom, but the Sprint leaked is working great for me. I know its off topic but I have the new garmin software on it as well and have never had to wait more than 30 seconds for a gps lock either. No priming software just using garmin. Not sure if this helps but just letting you know how mine was....

That's what I initially thought, but have now come to the conclusion that it's a battery level reporting problem.

If I plug it into a computer via USB cable with maybe 60% battery left, the batt icon will flash and led will light up like it's charging. I will leave it plugged in for a half-hour, only to find that that battery meter will now show 20%. BUT when I unplug it from the cable, a short time afterwards it will show 80%.

Bottom line, is that I get better battery life with the new rom than I did with the old with all the battery/registry hacks...

Re: Unusually high battery drain+ leaked ROM

FWIW, I have had the phone, running GPS, shut off BT and even the phone because of the power. This is while it was running off a car charger. I wonder, is everyone using the stock battery? I am using an after market one (will switch when I get home).

I have also seen the % go up and down without reason...Odd...
