I tried both Mustan's and JD's roms and I can't get a GPS lock either. I am in Hamilton, tried both off the balcony of my 14th floor apt and on the ground. In the holux GPS viewer it seems to see a lot of sats, but I don't get a long/lat.

Re: Any luck for Bell Mobility user with the new Alltell rom

I switched to Mustan's clean rom today and then installed VisualGPSce. I went outside turned VisualGPSce on and it immediately found like 10 sats and then locked on 4. I opened up Googlemaps (while keeping visualgpsce open) and it found my location pretty fast. Then I drove home and googlemaps followed me all the way home pretty well- I think it switched from about 3-5 sats on the way home but I obviously couldn't watch completely cus I was driving. I don't know why it decided to work so well today, I'm pretty sure I tried it with mustans rom yesterday too but didn't get good locks. It was pretty sunny and clear skies in halifax today so maybe that had something to do with it?

Give visualgpsce a shot and see what happens

Re: Any luck for Bell Mobility user with the new Alltell rom

Complete noob questions...

Bell users need not install the 3.xx radio upgrade....correct?

Also, are we able to use all the latest roms that are coming out by ghettofreeryder and JD? They all seem to ask for the radio upgrade and warning, etc.

No, you HAVE to install the Alltel ROM that also update the Radio stuff... Then, you may use JD's, Mustan's or other roms

Re: Any luck for Bell Mobility user with the new Alltell rom

I'm on Bell and here's what I did:

1. Upgraded to the alltel ROM posted in the sticky "Upgrade Sprint Touch to Rev. A. COMPLETE TUTORIAL With Download Links"

2. Upgraded to the Titan 3.35 Radio just for kicks. (not required)

3. Installed Ghetto's V7.00 ROM - pretty close to a Bell Stock Rom

Everything works. I noticed my download speeds haven't changed. Still getting 800kbps - 1000kbps download as before but not sure if I'm in a Rev A area (Vancouver).

NOTE: Gps did not work right off the bat. It would not find any satellites no matter how long I left it on my porch. Google Maps wouldn't even show the blue dot that everyone here is talking about. I thought I did something wrong and was about to redo everything and then I remembered that there was a Location Setting in the Phone Setting that was either ON or for 911 only. I found that it was for 911 only so I changed it to be ON. From that point on, the GPS worked. even got the blue dot in Google Maps.

My average lock times are about 2 minutes.

I'm in Vancouver (Richmond) on Bell and get fast and several gps locks and use google maps (4-7) sats, and tomtom nav (full bars). I get exact gps coordinates with GPSViewer and it also opens up the port for the internal GPS.
I use Ghetto's 700 ROM, GPSViewer.PPC300_2577, radio: 3.35.04.
I am now trying upgrade to the latest tomtom maps. Excellent battery life, nice vista black wallpaper, very convienient launcher, very seldom freezes if you install properly.
I am very happy with this set-up. Just read all of Ghettos thread for instructions and settings.
Great work guys!

Follow the stickey at the top for the stock CDMA roms. I believe they get rid of the unlocker as well as return to factory.

Thumbs up Re: Any luck for Bell Mobility user with the new Alltell rom

I finnally took the plunge... Was sweating buckets for a minute.. but everything worked up just fine...
I had a bell mobility HTC touch with Rom 1.19 and radio 1.59.10a...
Went ahead and follow the exact instructions from this link.. (1 through 12)http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=24979
Obvioulsty choosing the alltel with GPS...
Also note that I used all the files from those links too...
then I kept scrolling down to "GPS How-to" and follow steps 1 through 4....
And you know what... everything worked like a charm... JUST PERFECT....
Also note that internet worked all along after the unlocker then also after the alltel rom and also again after the JD'S room...
Again if you follow those instruction just as they are, you should not ran into any troubles...

Now as far as the GPS... again I open GPS viewer and after I see one or more sats under GPS Status tab.. I go ahead and open Google maps and what do you know...? IT works every time and is dead on to the square foot...
Really, really happy with this upgrade...
Hope this helps...

Hey ckl,

I'm in Vancouver as well. How'd you get 800kbps-1000kbps? What test are you using? I'm using mobilespeedtest.com and I get anywhere from below 100 to just below 600kbps.
